Volume issue on Android Auto - Google Maps

I just noticed that when I try to lower volume in GMaps when I'm using it through Android Auto, the volume is again up at the previous (standard) level at the next navigation alert.
So apparently there's no way to set a lower volume for the entire travel and this is quite annoying since I don't need a so high notification from Maps to turn right in 300m...

No issues at all with the volume of the car on other apps... meh?

Are you trying to change the volume WHILE Google Maps is speaking directions? You can only change the navigation voice volume while the voice is talking-otherwise it just changes music volume.

Yep sure and indeed I'm able to lower the volume when the voice on maps is speaking..problem is that the volume goes back to the previous volume level right after... very strange, I know
