I’m only a couple weeks into ownership and decided to finally try a DC fast charge. 1. It didn’t seem as fast as advertised for $.049 per kWh. and 2. My credit card says it was $40 for the below 10% charge for 17 min. What am I missing?

I have never seen anything llke that and I have public changed many times over the past 2.5 years.

It looks like you charged at a Cadillac dealer. Maybe they have some sort of connection fee for non-Cadillac vehicles? It's very strange for sure.

I would contact the owner of the charger and maybe they can sort it out for you.

~31kWh depending on what the actual station is rated for?

I've only public charged once. I paid $21.30 for 45 kW over an hour. The station is rated for 50 kWh so, about right at rate. I was probably around 10-20% when I started.

There's a 250 kWh Tesla supercharger near me but I haven't got my adapter yet to try it. Also I have a level 2 at home that does 11 kW/h which is more than enough. I don't see my using a local chargers, maybe if I ever (rarely) road trip.

The Mach-e gets great results with 150kw chargers. 350kw chargers can be used, but are not appreciably faster due to the Mach-e battery architecture. Best to leave those for cars that can use them. 60kw chargers are great for convenience, but avoid them if you are trying to get the fastest charges. It is like going to a gas station with a slow pump. Get what you need and move on to a better station.

I agree with the credit card hold theory if you have not charged here before.

I looked up the charger you used on Blink. A bit of a discrepancy- they're billing $.49/kWh as opposed to $.049. Your 9kWh added should have amounted to $4.41 (maybe slightly more given heat loss).

They don't list session fees, so either this is just a $40 hold, or something is definitely wrong. There are some other very unlikely possibilities that could be considered, but I wouldn't entertain them.

I'm not a big fan of Blink for a variety of reasons, and you just added to them.

I can’t see paying for blink unless I was desperate. Why pay for level 2? I do look for hotels with L2 when traveling
Miami Beach contracted with blink for their garages. What a joke pay for parking and pay for slow charge!

Who said anything about a L2 charger. The op was describing a dcfc charge.
We have a Blink dcfc at a Chrysler dealer with a lot of complaints on Plugshare regarding the price gouging there. One reporter claimed he paid $2.50/kwh and recommends avoiding it.

I live in Louisiana and there is a Cadillac dealership that charges like that. They dont have any fast chargers around that area and they know this and charge outrageous prices.

My experience with Blink is they charge you a fee ($20 for me, maybe $40 for you) that then goes on your "cash balance" on your account. They then deduct the current session fee from that, and keep the rest. Next time you charge, they deduct it from your cash balance. If you have "auto refill" turned on, they will automatically refill your cash balance when it gets below $10. You can turn off auto refill in the app.

To me, this is by far the worst way to do it, and I will never use Blink again unless I get desperate. I encourage you to do likewise, and also to contact Blink and complain.

A tip, if you shut off Auto Refill in the app, then charge to run your balance below $0, it will keep charging until you stop. Now you've turned they tables on them - you borrowed some of their money, rather than them borrowing yours without asking. Hah! Just desserts.

As a note, Tesla is not like this - they charge you for what you use each time you charge. A fair way to do it.

Sounds like you got hit with a $40 hold on your card. That's pretty standard from my experience from some charge station operators. Just wait a few days. $40 will go away and the actual cost will show up

Blink is the worst. You can't just pay for usage, but rather, you have to set up and preload an account. And at $0.49c a kWh (even for Level 2), they are very expensive. So, that $40 is probably Blink's now. But hey - you probably still have $35 of credit to use on their system still.
