Most of the time that I walk away from the car with the fob in my pocket, the car does not lock. Ford Pass also shows Vehicle is On. I have to go back and use the lock button on the fob. Any suggestions about fixing it or does it require a trip to the dealer?

I have 2 fobs and the issue is the same for both.

Check that you have walk away lock enabled:

To enable or disable the Walk Away Locking feature, use the following steps:
  1. Access your vehicle.
  2. Ensure your vehicle is on, turned on, and in park.
  3. On your SYNC®*** screen, access the vehicle drawer.
  4. Press Settings.
  5. Select Vehicle.
  6. Tap the Walk Away Lock slider on/off

Disabled and re-enabled settings and the issue still remains. Fob works fine (unlocks) when approaching the car.

This is why I don’t trust walk away lock on any vehicle. I always make sure the car is locked before walking away.

Even when I had my Tesla I had to open the door and lock it on the screen before getting out since there’s no exterior lock button.

I’ve experienced this a couple times. I just make sure to listen for the horn as I walk away. For me tho I’ve noticed if it doesn’t seem to work one time, the next time I drive, park and walk away it works again.

You said that the Ford Pass says the car is still on. I assume you have turned off the car.

I don't normally look at Ford Pass to see if the car is still on, so I just tested it. And the moment I turned off the car it showed that in the Ford Pass.

So, it seems to me there is some kind of communication problem.

I also think your "most of the time it doesn't work" statement is important. Since like @EB87 I experienced this once and after that I did the same have it honk the horn, and since that time I have never had a problem with it. But even before it was "most of the times it locked" not the other way around.

Some former/current Tesla owners always forget to do this with their non-Teslas.

Can you have walk away lock disabled when at home, but work everywhere else? I don't want it to lock when in my garage. I have never used it.

I'll not worry about it when the car is in the garage but will manually lock it with the fob when parked outside (if I can remember)

My salesman in March 2024 advised using the lock button on the FOB to be sure it was locked when I walked away.
