Water Drainage in trunk

When I picked up my MME it had just been washed and when the dealer opened the trunk gate poured out of the sides. I didn't give it any thought.

The last 4 days I've been at a hotel and there was a lot of rain and when I left the hotel (it was clear that day) and put my luggage in the back, sure enough a lot of water rained down in the trunk when I lifted it.

It got me wondering if this is normal. I would think that rain settling in the seams would be bad longterm for the car possibly encouraging rusting and such. Thoughts?

This is pretty normal. There's essentially a gutter that catches water like that on most modern car trunk lids. It's not going to rust, it's painted and treated just like the exterior of the car

As long as its not actually going inside the car when you open the back hatch its normal. Annoying, but normal.

I've already gotten in the habit of towel drying in this area, as well as between the doors and body of the car all around. There is a lot of places on this car that are exposed to the elements, but hidden behind body panels.
