anyone else had weird questions like this?
I’ve had a couple of anti-ev Mustang comments but the big meltdown was maybe 3 months ago. I was at a local grocery store parked right at the store entrance in handicapped parking (Yes, I qualify). I was in reverse waiting for an apparently clueless tourist to stop blocking me. The car was doing its reverse beep and she was staring at the Mustang emblem on the lift gate while standing directly behind the car.

She finally comes to the driver’s door and starts hammering on the driver’s side window with a clenched fist using her wedding ring. Then she starts screaming about the car not being a Mustang. And the beeping noise hurt her ears and if I don’t turn it off she’s going to call the police.

At that point if I could have made that reverse alert any louder I would have. Instead I put the car in park. Grabbed my cane and stepped out of the car and told her to leave my property alone. Yeah we already had an audience. She insisted she has a Mustang at home and this wasn’t one. And the beeping hurt her ears. By then the store manager, store security and the shopping center security had arrived. They invited her to leave and when she argued she got a permanent ban from the grocery store. She took a step towards my car with clenched fists and I blocked her with my cane and told her to leave me and my MUSTANG alone (BTW, I rarely, if ever, call the MME a Mustang). I then added “You’re on vacation. Are you sure you want to spend it getting angry because Bill Ford says this car is a Mustang?” There are some tourist we genuinely do not need here. :(

By far the worst I’ve ever seen.
Has anyone been “coal-rolled“ yet? Have any attempts of this nature been made to anyone here?
Once, about a year ago coming back from Hilo on the cross island highway. I had the audacity to pass a Ram that was doing 15 mph below the speed limit (which is 60 mph). He apparently did not like that as he passed me back and unleashed his pollution. I didn’t pass him again because I had Waze up on CarPlay and unfortunately for him, we were coming up on a well known speed trap. The opposite direction cop saw the whole thing. He made a u-turn and pulled the guy over.

Many tickets in Hawaii are fairly cheap by California standards. Not that one. By the time it was all over and done with that was going to cost him the better part of $500 just for the mod alone.

Honestly, 99+% of people are great about the car.

After two months, it's been 99% curiosity and positive comments so far. I've had one "that's not really a Mustang" comment. I told him, "Yeah, you're right. What's your favorite? The '65 Falcon or the '74 Pinto?" He half smiled and walked on.

How could the reversing beep hurt anyone's ears is beyond me. Hate saying it as I'll be one in the next couple of years but the most peculiar reactions are pensioners (Over 65's) in the UK. They stare open mouthed catching flies as though I'm driving an alien spaceship. (Which to them I suppose I am)

I was sitting in the car parked when visiting relatives and one came right up and pressed his face up against my side window crushing his nose against it. I waved and said hello and he shuffled away.

Most people have a look as though "That looks interesting" and a few have come up to me when I'm parking asking me what car is that?

Had a young-ish looking kid in an ICE Mustang pull up next to me on the highway and start honking to get my attention and then flipped me off with some weird scowl on his face.

I legit forgot that people took the Mach E "not a Mustang" thing that seriously and gave him a confused "huh?" before he sped off. I started double guessing myself like shit did I cut someone off or something? Only afterwards did I remember...

Yeah, shit is weird.

Wow that woman was truly insane. I’m sure the cops would have loved that use of their time. I gladly would have waited to see how that played out.

I had a kid on halloween coming by. The parents said see they have the new Mustang. Then the kid said thats electric thats not a mustang. So I said, if you want candy you call it a Mustang.
Damn, that’s good. This is probably one of only a couple times I’ve had a weird negative reaction. We did trunk or treat at kids school last year, but WE did frunk or treat and everyone was so curious about the MME, I probably sold about 10 that night. Still waiting on those sales commission checks, Mr. Farley.

I’m three weeks into ownership and finally had my first one yesterday. Driving down the highway getting ready to exit, when an ICE Mustang pulls up next to me, revs its engine, and then the fattest hand I’ve ever seen reaches forward from the backseat out the window to give a thumbs down. I was giddy.

Was coal rolled once early in ownership. Happened to be with the wife and she thought his exhaust was broken. After I explained to her what he was doing; I got the old “men are dumb” look 🤣🤣 from her.

Pulled up to our Panda Express (what? I like the orange chicken) and some guy gets out of his Honda Civic R and asks me if my car is my first Mustang. I say “yeah”..

and then he says “it’s pretty interesting you picked the EV as your first Mustang”…. I just walked away. Probably the first weird encounter I’ve had, he definitely seemed triggered about it.

I should have said,“well, I was looking for an EV and this just happened to be a Mustang”

anyone else had weird questions like this?
Ask them when they are shopping for a new car, how high on the features list is the name of the vehicle. 🙄🙄🙄

I bring my car to Drive Electric NH events and spend hours talking to people about the (current) realities of ordering, buying and owning an EV. I'd say 90% are very excited and positive about the idea. The other 10% approach with arms crossed. My last event was at a rib fest at a Budweiser plant. You can image how many truck driving good ol boys came over. There was a Rivian next to my car too (similar color as it happens). The arm crosses were put off by the price but eyebrows went up at the HP, especially when I told them what the GTs put out. Yes, plenty of "That's not a Mustang" comments but they were often followed up with acknowledgements that it is still a nice looking car.

People are definitely coming around. Oh and yah @Logal727, I'm waiting for my referral checks too.

The only weird encounter I had was overhearing some guy loudly talking to another parent when picking up our kids from daycare. Started getting into his extensive knowledge on how ICE vehicles are really more environmentally friendly than EVs because of “insert Facebook comment here”.

Super annoying and shows that most peoples negative perceptions come from social media comments and click bait articles not the car itself.
