With the BC1.3 OTA update, what sensors are being used to see if a lane change is safe? Is it just the blind spot monitors to see if traffic is coming up behind?

It is probably a combination of the blind spot sensors, side camera and rear camera. Because I noticed that if someone is not (yet) in your blind spot, but coming up fast, the car can see this and will wait to initiate a lane change.

Why do you ask?

Ok good to know it waited to initiate a lane change. Just curious if it did use the backup camera as well because I don't think just the blind spot monitor gives it enough time to react.

It uses the corner radars and the front camera. Radar will detect any cars coming instantly. It can see several hundred feet ahead and behind with the radars.

It actually works pretty well. I was driving on the freeway the other day, lane to my left was clear, I tapped the turn signal and it was getting ready to switch when suddenly the guy behind me moved into the left lane and it just waited until he passed.

It is not using rear or side cameras. Only blind spot monitors and front camera.

The blind spot radar must extend far beyond when the mirror light illuminates for it to prevent a lane change for a fast car coming from behind.

I don't know which sensors are being used but, I did use for the first time the Auto Lane Change the other day. I like the side carat symbols <> and did notice a slight delay prior to changing lanes. Otherwise it worked great. I'm 69 so I've driven using my own senses for so long that I am quite cautious trusting this type of technology. I'll become more comfortable with it. ;)

Once when it was rainy and dark on the highway I tried to change lanes from passing (left) to travel (right) and it responded with "Lane not found" and wouldn't change lanes. I wish I had taken a photo of the message, haven't seen it before or since.

My most common problem is it gets stuck on "preparing lane change" and never does, at least not fast enough for me (>20 seconds) so I just change myself.

I also used to cancel the signal prematurely and the car would lurch back into my lane (cancel lane change). I now leave it on for several seconds after completing the lane change and that solved that problem.

The camera has to "see" the lines of the lane you are going into. Not just the line you are crossing over, but the far line as well.
I was in a situation where two lanes (each) of a major highway were merging into each other. My car was in the middle of an auto lane change, when the far line dissapeared for the merge. Essentially the lane I was going into became wide until the merge completed and the lane narrowed back down.
Showed me the same message, something like "Lane not found". I haven't tried, but I'm sure I could replicate by going back through the same stretch of road.
Car handled it really well actually.
