Will "Connected Built-in Navigation" work abroad? Going to Canada.

Should be no problems in Canada. Speedometer toggle for km/hr is at the bottom of vehicle settings, not with the rest of the units options.

My cellphone plan doesn't cover international data, so I want to stick to the built-in navigation as much as possible

Download maps ahead of time via Wi-Fi and turn off phone data while in Canada.

Most major cell carriers have coverage for North America. Data is limited but so far no issues

Offline maps on iPhone works great. Travel around Canada is great. They let us have blue cruise too.

I am from Canada and just did a cross USA road trip from Toronto to San Fran/Los Angeles and back to Toronto using car nav the entire time and it was fine. All NA cars have NA maps installed that cover Canada, USA, and Mexico.

Car modem also works in all countries no issues.
