How do we get our employers to put in a level 2 charger or a couple NEMA 14-50's, or at least give us access to a 120-volt outlet?

I know this has been talked about as a digression in other threads but I thought it would be nice for new BEV owners to be able to search for the topic.

If you plug into a 120-volt outlet for 8 hours at 12amps, that is 11.5kWh minus your inefficiencies. ...Round it down to 10kWh and you have enough to cover a 30-40 mile commute depending on your car's efficiency. The cost to your employer for those 11.5kWh is only $1.26 a day at $0.11/kWh. Getting a high output plug or a dedicated charger would be better. There are a lot of people out there that can't charge at home. Having more work chargers will help them to move to a BEV.

For those you you that charge at work. How did you get your employer to allow it or to "Pony" up for a charger or allow you to plug-in?

Here are a few articles to get us started. I know they are old.

luckily the model 3 boom caused my work to expand. But who knows when most are going back to enjoy the benefit.

Building leases matter a lot in this scenario. I would hope it would help in value for properties.

Ah but the first question is: do you really need workplace charging?

When EV's could only go 70 miles workplace charging was necessary. Now that you get more than 200 miles on a charge the need for workplace charging falls off dramatically. If you can go to work and back 2 or 3 times without a charge, why do you need it?

Are you simply just trying to get another freebie out of work? (When I first got the Focus Electric a coworker and I had queried about just such a thing and the response from management was: "We don't pay for everyone's gas, why should we fill up your cars?" and that was the end of the story.) Er so I didn't get my employer to pony up for a charger.

When I first got the Focus Electric my commute was 40 miles total. In the winter that was a stretch--it never left me stranded but I almost always arrived home with 10 miles or less available range. Workplace charging would have been quite helpful.

With the Bolt and its 200+ mile range I don't even give it a 2nd thought summer or winter.

My CA Rt1 Mach-E will make the need even less likely with its 300+ (hopefully) mile range.

While I'd put it below apartment/condo building chargers in term of need and priority, I'd say yes, workplace is an important alternate for those that can't get charging at home.

But it doesn't mean it has to be free. Make it reserved parking spots that the employee rents for the month, or a set day of the week. With a premium for the 14-50 outlet. They can use their own mobile charger (rather than providing 3 different plugs).

I know that a lot of employers pay for bus passes because it's good for the environment and lowers traffic. BEV's seem to be in a similar category. There are also a lot of perks that are offered to "everyone," like free coffee, but really only a few are able to take advantage.

I'm trying to help out those that don't have home charging. I'm not trying to get a freebee as I know I won't be getting free charging at my work. I would pay to charge at work if it was as cheap as at home.

Hang on - it's not necessarily just for those that can't charge at home. In the dead of winter or the height of summer heat, battery conditioning is crucial. Using even just 110AC to run the conditioning makes a lot of sense rather than draining the battery to cool it.
