You’re overthinking this. $800/yr is an anchor price. Nothing more. One of the first examples in calculus 101 is determining the best price for a product to make the most profit. At a lower price more people will buy it but at a lower profit per piece. In this thread 16% of respondents said they would pay for Hands Free Blue Cruise, but almost all said $200/year was max. Some said a high per month rate would be acceptable if they could get it for only that month. It would most likely be a nightmare to sell a monthly or weekly subscription. So Ford Marketing will have to figure out if they can gain enough extra people to buy HFBC at lets say $120/year to make that price point optimize profit. Alternatively, would they lose too many customers if they charged greater than $200/year, which seems likely to be the highest acceptable yearly price to many people. Once Marketing gets the right data they can plug it into an equation and come up with the price that yields the most profit. Personally, I would get it at $120/year, I would have to think about it at $200/year and I would not get it at greater than $200/year. Of course there are always customer satisfaction and brand image to take into account, which are not the same as maximizing profit.
Agreed, it will be just like satellite radio. "Sure blue Cruise costs $800 a year, but if you call and threaten to cancel you can get a promo of $5 a month, but don't forget cause on month 13 it goes back to $800You’re overthinking this. $800/yr is an anchor price. Nothing more.
Last year, lots of people on here were bitching about BlueCruise costing $600 for three years… so Ford introduced $800/yr but a special opportunity to be grandfathered in at the $600/3yr rate. Now people are jumping on it.
If the $800/yr anchor goes into effect, expect promotional windows with cheaper pricing. Ford already knows the take-rate for its MSRP will be abysmal.
Subscription services or " rent an option " is today only a tip of whats coming. You pay and every cycle the "rent goes up". Its like Sirius radio or cable. Vinfast tried it on battery rental which flopped. Dodge is cooking up a recipe of high dollar per month services on their future muscle ev. Rent a increased power option and next owner takes on the rent. Not a very good selling point.Price matters.
SameYou should add another option to the poll. I have a job 1 and get 3 yrs for $600 so I answered yes I would pay for BC, but my answer would be no if I had to pay $800 a year.
No. Unfortunately that's not an option.Has anyone been able to pay for Blue Cruise using Ford reward points?
Please add another option to the poll: "I've already paid for a subscription"I have found the Ford Blue Cruise (“Hands Free”) feature unusable as currently implemented and certainly would not pay for it when it becomes a subscription. Although I have driven for decades and never had a driving accident, Blue Cruise thinks I am not watching or paying attention to the road. Compared to my other vehicle with lane centering, Blue Cruise does not perform as well.
I was interested in other owners opinions.
Update 3 October 2023
I now have a 2023 Mach-E Premium and the Blue Cruise system works for me in this version.
As I posted previously, my 2022 Mach-E Premium was non-repairable after I was hit by a fleeing robbery suspect in a reckless pursuit by police and the car crashed going backwards into the center divide.
