YouTube app unusable past 360p resolution?

Anyone experiencing the YouTube app buffering forever after about 5 seconds of playback at any resolution above 360p? I checked the stats for nerds and it doesn't look like the player is even trying to request any data...

I set it manually to 720p and that works fine. If it doesn't load it's probably your WiFi signal not being strong enough. You may need a WiFi router in your garage or very close to get good results.

It's tethered to my phone where no other devices have problems streaming 4k. It's not that it's slow - it just doesn't even try to download the video segments.

i also can't get it to work past 360p. Android auto doesn't have issues loading youtube at any resolution so im not sure why the app has issues

Just tested it again, no issues with 1080p off my home WiFi.
