Didn't know there was a driver facing monitor camera, only an infrared sensor bank to check where the drivers eyes are scanning. What does this camera do?

It checks your attentiveness to keep BlueCruise enabled if the car is driving itself, or if you have the setting turned on to monitor attentiveness in general. It's part of the steering wheel system above the horn area and is checking your eyes.

For me it disengages BlueCruise often by falsely stating I'm not paying attention even when I'm facing forward with no distractions, so I'm hoping this helps when I get it. I reported it to Ford in a follow-up survey 2-3 years ago for my 2021. My wife is leasing a 2025 and when I drive it, the false alerts seem just as bad.

You seemed to describe the infrared sensor bank that I mentioned (yes above and behind the horn), and not a "camera" as such. Am I not understanding?

Perhaps in addition to the infrared lamps that send out the light beams, there are lenses embedded in this device that are the sensors of the reflected red light coming back from your eyes, and that is referred to as a camera vs. a device "taking pictures"

Sorry, I misread your post. I believe they are the same thing. Almost all modern cameras (both dedicated ones and phones) use similar types of sensors as these, just in color instead of infrared. I assume it's taking continuous video of your entire face (and some of the surrounding area), and whether it's a camera or sensor is a word choice.

Just curious if you wear glasses. I have heard a few people talking about certain pairs of glasses making it so the infrared can't see their eyes at certain angles. I'm guessing from a UV coating, or something...

Prisms are what cause the problems with mine…more a problem at night. My same prescription in shades is fine (mostly) during the day.

Driver Status Monitor Camera
The interior monitor system uses a driver status monitor camera which is used by the driver status monitor camera module to monitor the driver's eyes and head position. The camera is located in the instrument panel.

Driver Status Monitor LED
The interior monitor system has two driver status monitor infrared LEDs which are used by the driver
status monitor camera module to monitor the driver's eyes and head position. The driver status monitor LEDs are part of the driver status monitor camera assembly.

That's from the manual, which appears to state the camera is in 2 places at the same time, thus bending the concept of time and space I suppose.

I do wear glasses, but no special coating other than anti-glare and anti-scratch (no UV or anything, no progressive/bifocals yet).

From my 2024 MME Owner's Manual:
Ford Mustang Mach-E DSMC-24.5.7 OTA Update 1755105769962-zr

Sure sounds like there's also a camera back there. You can see the IR sensors on each side when in photo mode on your cell phone camera. Apparently there's a camera too.

I'm not sure anyone was doubting this? It's the entire purpose of the driver monitoring camera. The infrared lights that you can somewhat see at night, or easily see with your own camera, are LEDs (lights), not sensors. They are necessary so that the cameras (which you can't see as they're behind the plastic cover) are able to see your eyes in darker ambient conditions.
