These are thermal images of all the heated areas in the Mach-E. Taken with a tiny FLIR thermal camera that has poor resolution.

Air extractors under the rear bumper cover. This is where the warm cabin air exits your vehicle. If you use too much fan speed, this area will get hot. Marker light is also warm.

This one has personal significance. Notice the roof glass in front of the shark fin is cool. That's because I have my Reflextix covering the glass. It's doing a great job blocking heat loss, so good that you can clearly see its outline because I have some tiny gaps around the edges where some heat is getting through.

Notes:
  • Heated mirrors and wiper park areas seem to stay on all the time with AUTO.
    • You can feel the warm areas by hand
  • Rear defrost only comes on when you press the button
  • Front camera heater only comes on at startup, and you cannot manually activate it. It turns on itself when the view is blocked.
  • Using lower fan speeds will minimize the amount of warm air blowing out the rear vent extractors (wasted heat).
  • Reflectix roof covering is very effective at blocking heat loss.

I had wondered if the seat backs had coils as well. Now I know. I think the reason I don't feel it as much is my torso is usually layered and it's only pants between me and the seat bottom.

Timely post Lee. Not getting above 30°F in NH any time over the next five days. Very glad I have a garage under and next to heated spaces.

Excellent shots Lee! I had no idea there was heat escaping out the back of the car like that. Super interesting.

Here's a shot of the camera heater in action:

Very cool! (or warm)

Was this a pre-conditioned battery pack showing 32.2°C?

That was March last year, so almost Summer

Actually in Southern Ontario we don't get much snow, relatively speaking. A few years ago we were mocked by the rest of Canada after the Mayor of Toronto called in the Army to help clear the streets after three storms left 43 inches of snow.

Took a while to live that one down...

I forgot the car has heated mirrors! I never had a car with them before and never thought about it. We haven't had much snow for me to notice them working. Otherwise, I might have realized this.

I also didn't know there were warmers for where the wipers park. Great idea!

Excellent photos and information. I also was not aware of the camera heaters or the wiper park area heaters. Thanks for providing these, Lee.

Heated/cooled seats have channels for the airflow for a different heat pattern design. Leather is thicker obscuring the wire elements.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't you want the fan on high until you get to optimum temperature? Heat rising and all that, wouldn't that push the colder air out the back, then dial down the fan once you're near the temp you want (or comfortable)?

The heater is too weak to run high fan, just blows cold air on you.
