Yesterday I took a short trip and returned with a smile on my face. I use Android Maps extensively and I noticed that it now fills the Mach-e's screen on my vehicle. It's nice to have large maps displayed for directions, etc. It got me thinking of all of the upgrades that have occurred in the 10 months since I've owned by 2021 Job 2. This is a partial list that comes to mind:
  • The Phone as a Key is working well now. I find it reliable, such that I almost never carry my key fob. I also like the fact that I can now cancel the feature on my phone when I return home. I used to have to force-close the app to keep my phone from attempting to connect to the vehicle.
  • Frunk works from the Ford app, although I seldom use it.
  • The range estimates seem to be better, as do the charging time estimates.
  • I've just noticed new functionality on the vehicle's screen for A/C controls. As a result, it doesn't look like I'll need to get into the HVAC screen much, if at all.
  • Blue Cruise seems to be working better (although I have limited experience on its use).
  • The Alexa app feature looks like it will actually be useful. Just the response to "Alexa, give me the weather forecast" is nice!
I don't keep track of the individual updates and what does what. But over time the vehicle has improved. Thus that smile!

I would be interested in the thoughts of others on this topic. What have you noticed that has improved? Or are you a 'cup half empty' person and feel that all of this should have worked flawlessly when the vehicle was first released? What have I missed above--I'm guessing a lot. What is still anticipated? Are we really supposed to get a new operating system soon?

I feel like the PaaK is getting better. At least, I don't as often feel like a dink standing around jabbing at the button for an hour. Which is nice, because it lets me focus on all the other ways I look like a dink.

I was just thinking that the car is much better than it was when I got it. (21 job 1)... PAAK works reliably, charge rate better, less buggy in general.

I may be the only one here... but I like the youtube availability in the car now too.

if only I had a frunk button o_O

I agree completely. Since I did all the updates myself from 2.7.4 forward in one weekend, I really noticed a difference all around. The 1PD braking, which I never had a problem with before, is absolutely smoother, dare I say ā€œbuttery.ā€ CarPlay full screen and CarPlay navigation in the IPC is a winner. PAAK, while always reliable for me, has been faster to engage. Adding the software switch for the frunk release (and getting the button access on the door panel) has made me use the frunk more. (Now if I could get it added to FordPass, Iā€™d be set.)

In fact, other than the lurking heart attack of impending HVBJB failure and occasional leaking of water into the trunk after a car wash, Iā€™m super happy with the vehicle itself. Really satisfied. Iā€™d love things like a Sentry Mode, dashcam recording from the front and rear cameras, etc., but those are wishes for new features, not dings against what I bought. Waiting for BlueCruise was the last real thorn in my side, and even though I had to cough up some bills to buy the equipment to do it myself, Iā€™m looking forward to using that equipment again in the future to keep the tweaks sharp.

Johnny,

I missed this, I guess. I have access to the frunk from FordPass, and of course the lever adjacent to the pedals. What's the software switch? I'm assuming that you mean you can also open the frunk from the main vehicle screen? It's it easier to just toggle the lever?

Which brings to mind, a real nice update would be to have a physical switch someplace for the lift-gate--perhaps repurposing one of the existing physical switches.

Frunk works from the Ford app, although I seldom use it: Did this not work for you before?
I don't believe the FordPass app could be used initially to open the frunk for the 2021 e-Stangs. Now it works well for mine.

It still hasn't been added to the app for cars that didn't come with it originally. Hence my confusion. What's your build date?

Good to hear your stuff is working better than before. I think most everything worked on my car since new. PaaK was unreliable but that really didn't bother me much since I use the fob anyway.

So, I was pleased with the car's software from the beginning. Unfortunately my story is opposite of yours. The software on my car has regressed since purchase. I no longer have preferred lane centering, frequent front camera and pre-collision assist faults and my profile fails to load.

That last one just started today. I am stuck in Guest profile. I can see my profile and my wife's but the system won't let me select them. Been driving around with none of my preferred settings. Little by little I am re-programming the Guest profile to my liking since I may be stuck like this for a while.

Generally speaking......many of the software glitches that I have experienced over the last 53k miles have been temporary. They usually only last a week or so and then return to normal operation. The exceptions being the first two items listed. Jury is still out on that third item though....

I don't like the new A/C button since I don't need it there. I accidentally touch it by accident when I really want to change the Auto climate levels. It starts to get hot in the car and then I look down and see I hit the wrong button. Kinda annoying but I guess I will get used to it.

There have been a couple minor improvements that I like. The SiriusXM alerts didn't work when new but that has been fixed. Also fixed the odometer so it shows the tenths of a mile and maybe a couple other things.

It's quite impressive that I can basically get new features over a year and also have some quirks fixed without visiting a dealer. Good job on Ford for finally getting it together. It was a little bumpy, but imagine how smooth this is gonna be in 2 or 3 years.

Have you tried any of the Guest profile fixes? Most people have had it fixed by just creating a third profile so all your profiles are maxed out and everything goes back to normal.

I believe my vehicle was manufactured in August 2021, delivered in Dec of that year. Yours must be one of the early 1st builds. I've been able to activate the Frunk using the FordPass app for the last six months or so--didn't have it initially.

Your car is a Job 2, so you've actually always had it (assuming PaaK was enabled).

I still have yet to get the frunk release on my app in Canada, so not sure if itā€™s only for USA.

My car was built in July of 2021. I don't have any of the new features you mentioned. Not sure why mine is falling behind on the updates.
