2022 GTPE in Dark Matter Gray
Hi All,

First time posting, been lurking for a few months. I bought a CPO '22 GTPE in dark matter gray about a month ago, and I have been loving it. I am having one minor problem where the audio system fails to work on maybe every 10th drive. I primarily notice because I might have a spotify song playing viacarplay, and I can see that the system thinks its playing something, but there is no output from the speakers. I don't think its limited to just spotify/carplay though, as I dont hear the propulsion sound (or any other chimes/voices/sounds).

When this happens, I can turn the car off and back on again, and its restored (for a bit). I have tried the SYNC reboot (hold volume down + advance-track for 10-ish seconds), and while the system does reboot, the audio generally isnt restored. So far, the only methods that works is to shut the car completely off.

Is this a known issue?

Thanks,
-Greg

Yes, I usually go into sync, disconnect my phone (phone list, press the CarPlay button to disconnect), then reconnect (same procedure).

This is one of the most maddening bugs left for Ford to solve. Unfortunately it's been around for a while and Ford isn't exactly known for their agile fast-paced software delivery. So who knows if/when it'll be fixed.

It's an annoying bug, isn't it? The first thing I do when it happens is switch over to radio for a second until sound is being produced, and then back to CarPlay, and that fixes it most of the time. The Sync reset usually works too, but sometimes it does seem to require disconnecting and reconnecting.

It happens to me most often when I have stopped at a store, and only been out of the car for a few minutes. Where it was playing fine before I shut off the car, but get back in a few minutes later, and even though it's connected to CarPlay and the audio is "playing", nothing is coming out of the speakers.

The other thing to be aware of is that doing the Sync reset tends to turn your volume all the way down, so you need to turn it back up after CarPlay reconnects.

Thank you all, I will give these suggestions a try.

Tangentially, does the headlight setting change with the SYNC reset? I normally leave them in automatic, but the other day I tried to shut the car off and it was bonging me to tell me something was wrong and I couldnt figure it out. So I got out, and later noticed my headlights were on.

So I think the bonging was about the lights, but I never touched the switch to my knowledge. I did, however, do the SYNC reset on the ride prior. So now I am wondering if the SYNC reset also reset the headlight to ON from AUTO. I suppose I can just test that theory.

In any case, thank you all again. I really love the car, despite the audio glitch.

Mine has done that a few times. It seems to be a phone connection issue. I can select MEDIA - (where I have a USB drive with music stored on it) and the sound comes on. Press Carplay to go back and it is still silent. Turn off the car and open the door to power it down, turn it back on and then carplay sound comes back on. Annoying, but it doesn't happen to often for me.

The Sync reset shouldn't change the headlight setting. I am not entirely sure, but it's possible that the headlight setting is specific to a driver profile, and your car switches driver profiles without you realizing it... I got so tired of that, I deleted my wife's profile, and made all the driver profiles match my own. (But in my case, it was that the seat was way too far forward, and I couldn't get in the car... not sure if the headlight settings are part of that profile, though).

This has never happened to me in thousands of drives over nearly four years. I use CarPlay and Android Auto regularly.

I wonder why it happens to some cars and not others.

I just disconnect CarPlay, then immediately reconnect. Has worked for me every time. Much easier than turning off car or resetting anything.

That is another glitch this car has, every now and then it switches from auto to on. If it happens a lot there is a dealer TSB to change out the headlight switch. Only happens to mine every few months to year or more so I don’t bother with it.

I also get the no sound issue or only sound sound from one source. Sometmes the radio station will be froze on one channel and can’t change or use CarPlay sound. Sometimes it’s the CarPlay stuck, and sometimes it’s the no sound. Only turning the car off on fixes it. But have also tried the turning off car play and back on as well. It’s very infrequent though for me every few months or so.

I don't know if this is your problem, but if I switch to Sirius XM radio, it disconnects the Android system and Spotify and Pandora have no sound even though it looks like they are playing. If I hit the Android arrow icon, it switches back to normal. I don't have CarPlay, but it might be similar.

I have found that it seems to happen more often when I turn the car on and quickly put it into drive. If I wait for a few seconds before putting it into gear, then it doesn’t seem to ever happen.
I don’t think this is a ford thing but a CarPlay issue. It happens occasionally in my Mach-e, but identical thing happens in wife’s Toyota.

@Yatzze interesting. Now I’m wondering what f it’s correlated to having CarPlay connected before driving. There are times I wait for it to come up so I can select a song. Other times I just drive. Will pay attention to that

I run Sirius on my iPhone and then CarPlay it in my MME. Like you I have found that running errands can cause problems….all is good…then I go into a store and come out and then no Sirius when I start up the MME….but on my phone it appears to be playing….but no sound in my MME.

I think I have found something that improves or repairs the issue…at least for me. Try this. When you stop for your errand and get out of the MME, try opening the app you are running and then close it. In my case I can see Sirius streaming at the very top of my iPhone when I am in the store. Try stopping that stream by opening and closing the app. before you get back into the MME fire everything up….let it start on its own.

I do still have the intermittent ā€˜Audio Off’ issue when I start up the MME….sometimes it comes on and sometimes it doesn’t.
