Hello,

To keep it short:

-I'm in Belgium, Europe,.
-Last OTA update : 15 July 25 : FordPower-Up 4.2.1.2
-I have a Mach-E AWD with a build date of 15 May 2021 (VIN: WF0TK3SU7MMA31754). The car was imported from Germany.
-I’m using a TopDon RLink J2534 (https://topdon-france.com/produit/rlink-j2534/)
-And a stabilized power supply (https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B0C6T6465D?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)
Ford Mustang Mach-E Belgium [EU] - Mach E - FDRS Update fails 1764179510040-qh

Ford Mustang Mach-E Belgium [EU] - Mach E - FDRS Update fails 1764180329026-42

Using FDRS, I managed to perform some updates, but there are still a few that I just can’t complete.

During those updates, usually at the beginning, when the car’s modules switch to flash mode (speedometer screen goes black and pumps start), I get an error.

Depending on the update, the error message changes slightly, but it always ends up with almost the same one:
PCM NRC 31 (requestOutOfRange) – Unable to execute diagnostic service 0x34.

I read that this could be caused by the TopDon cable, but I doubt it: I had no issues with other updates, and other people have been able to do their updates with this cable.

As for the power supply: the voltage never drops below 13V at any point.

Is it possible that these particular updates can only be done after the recalls have been performed?
(I still have open recalls. I’m currently trying to get an appointment at a dealer to have them done, after already leaving the car for a day at two different dealers who finally told me they weren’t equipped to do the recall or didn’t have the parts…)

Any other ideas? I’ve driven the car normally for several days between the two update sessions, but that didn’t change anything.

Thanks for your help, this forum is wonderful 🙂

Cheap adapters can cause those sort of issues, in some cases they don’t respond fast enough for FDRS. Or don’t support the correct data format and can cause corruption. So this is a “proceed at your own risk” situation.

Ok, will not try again and refund it then.
Which adapters do you recommend in the EU? I can’t find the Opus IVS Mongoose-Plus J2534 OEM for under €1,200 in the EU, and it’s around $700 when importing…
Also, where can I see the latest Ford Power-Up / SYNC version available in my country?

Thanks again.

Unfortunately, the Mongoose is not cheap. Your best bet is to check ebay to see if you can find a used one for sale. Here in the US, they cost $575 USD plus taxes. They are pricey no matter where you purchase one.

I believe for the Euro spec vehicles, Sync 23095 is the latest one, but I am not confident that is accurate.

As another european doing updates I have not bought the very expensive mongoose and has done everything with a cheap VXDiag clone. The mongoose is just too expensive, and now there are more reasons to not buy it. I have had issues and errors, but most of them would succeed after trying again. At least once i had to do it several times before it succeeded. Mostly if it fails at the exact same spot every time it is most likely a software issue, since it always either fails completely or it will fail at a random progress during the update.

The only module that I have never been able to finish even after multiple retries with the cheap vxdiag clone is the CCM module. The OBDLink MX writes to this with no issue (with forscan).

The thing that I would say is the most important is to have a very good ELM327 adapter, like the OBDLink MX which will be able to write any update, just not via FDRS, so it will be able to revert or finish updates via forscan when there are no way forward otherwise.

Anyway there is a risk involved, but since the updates are mostly not writing the boot loader itself modules will generally still be able to receive new firmware even when they are completely dead and that is where forscan with obdlink mx, which is a very expensive ELM327 adapter, but still very cheap compared to certified J2534 adapters. I would also avoid any sort of wireless adapters, always use directly connected USB adapters.
