NHTSA Recall No.: 25V863
Manufacturer Recall No.: 25C69

Vehicle Rollaway Risk/FMVSS 114
A loss of park function can allow the vehicle to rollaway, increasing the risk of a crash.

NHTSA ID Number:
25V863000
Manufacturer Ford Motor Company
Components POWER TRAIN
Potential Number of Units Affected: 272,645

Summary
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2022-2026 F-150 Lightning BEV, 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-E, and 2025-2026 Maverick vehicles. The integrated park module may fail to lock into the park position when the driver shifts into park. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Remedy
The park module software will be updated over-the-air (OTA) or by a dealer, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, are expected to be mailed February 2, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in February 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 25C69. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning January 26, 2026.

"The recall affects certain F-150 Lightning BEV pickup trucks with model years 2022 -2026; Mustang Mach-E cars with model years 2024-2026; and Maverick pickups with model years 2025-2026."

"Ford plans to issue letters notifying owners of the issue on Feb. 2, 2026."

Apparently we can find out in January, 2026 if our vehicles are affected. But a more direct notification from Ford prior to Feb. 2, 2026 would be nice, instead of making us do the lookup ourselves.

Well anyway, now that I know (IYKYK) I will refrain from parking on hills and slopes without ensuring some type of mitigation against this issue, just in case...at least until January 2026 when I can go look for myself. 😳

It's made the general news now. Here's one, of many, news reports:

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/ford-recall-vehicles-faulty-parking-function-rollaway/

"Ford Motor is recalling nearly 273,000 vehicles due to an issue with the parking function that could cause cars to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The recall affects certain F-150 Lightning BEV pickup trucks with model years 2022-2026; Mustang Mach-E cars with model years 2024-2026; and Maverick pickups with model years 2025-2026.

The integrated parking module in those vehicles may fail to lock into park when drivers shift into that gear, NHTSA said in a notice.

Ford plans to issue letters notifying owners of the issue on Feb. 2, 2026. The faulty software can be updated "over-the-air," which is done remotely, or by the dealer, NHTSA said. Ford's number for this recall is 25C69.

Ford recalled more than 197,000 Mustang Mach-E vehicles in June over a separate problem with the cars' door latches."

so if we just manually engage the parking brake when parking are we going to be OK on this one?

This article says it's 2024-2026 Mustang Mach-Es, but then says:
The recall includes 80,468 Maverick hybrids, 104,113 Lightning EVs, and 88,064 Mustang Mach-E models.

Did they really sell almost 90k 24-26 model year Mach-Es?

I'm confident that will do it.

I'm one of those folks who always sets the Parking Brake before putting the transmission in Park, and I've never had the MME or any other vehicle I've driven still move when the parking brake is set (though I really have to torque the hand brake lever on my 11,000 lb Sprinter RV).

I do wish I had a manual hand brake on the Rally - that would increase the fun factor!

Interesting... The P-brake applies automatically when you shift into park. I wonder if the fault is with that, or the mechanism in the transmission...or both?

Seems like manually applying the PB prior to shifting to P would indeed ensure the operation, just in case...

Interesting, this, ODA & NHTSA in US have power.

They TELL makers you have a problem, this is what you’ll do and you’ll do it by then!

Here in UK, our safety recall is VOLUNTARY.

Yes, you hear that correctly, folks, it is the manufacturer who says to DVSA “we think we may have a proem and we’ll do this…….when we decide to do it.

Any problems not admitted but reported for consideration and investigation allows makers to say such things I heard like, oh that parking pawl which let’s go and allows the car to roll away is an “accepted consequence of design”.

I’d like to see them get away with that in the US😂

24+ Mach-E got a different rear motor from the Lightning which presumably has the same parking pawl design.

I wonder if the recall software fix will just be to apply the parking brake every time now instead of only when it senses an incline.

Good thing Ford got rid of that annoying parking pawl in the drive unit 🙄
Pretty sure that was a Munroe recommendation too.

Our '24 automatically applies the PB 100% of the time, when shifting to park, regardless of vehicle position.

It must be early days...this hasn't even hit the PTS/OASIS system yet. No mention of 25C69.
