Because more than one person has been literally unable to set up PAAk even on phones quite capable, and there are reports of PAAK not working at all when out of cell coverage. In the first case, no PAAK means no codes and in the second case, you'd better have memorized the entry and start codes.

So again...OTHER than early adopter issues...
Ford reps need to get better at helping people understand things...which means they need to RTFM, and they need to tell people explicitly to RTFM because their/our assumptions might be wrong. I had to instruct mine, but I'm an engineer AND a chronic early adopter (I bought the 24th Kia Stinger sold in the state...) so of course *I* know what I'm in for...but they need to make this clearer to people, since the default seems to be "It doesn't work immediately on day one so eff Ford". My salesperson didn't know Android 11+ was required, for instance, for wireless Android Auto. They didn't know that you had to make sure the Fordpass app is awake (which isn't generally hard to toggle if you want it to not sleep during errands, but goto sleep once you're home)...etc etc.

So, early adopter bumps aside, seriously what is the problem with PaaK? You have your phone with you. It is your key. Instead of needing to push a button on a fob, your worst case is...pull out your phone and make sure BT is on (and if it was, by that time, the car is unlocked...).
I honestly think most of the PaaK hate is misplaced. Mine has had issues also, but oh dang I had to push 5 numbers and type a password to drive my car that one time. New tech on top of new tech on top of new tech...give it a few weeks. Take a deep breath. Enjoy the drive.

My problem with Paak is that it is a replacement for the fob but is not anywhere near as reliable for many here, and when working causes excessive battery drain in numerous cases.

My phone can (hopefully most times) be used as my key, yes. It is not a key I can hand to someone else or use MyKey to restrict.

My car unlocks every time I approach with the fob in my pocket. No buttons. Worst case with Paak is that it takes several minutes of fooling around with the phone or does not work at all.

If Paak works for you, great. I do not hate Paak, but it does not work great for me and many others here - and not at all for a few. By "work", I mean functionally equivalent to the fob, every time. If this is to be used in place of the traditional 2nd fob (or the 1st fob), it should be just as reliable.

Would this be the worst worst case? If you don't mind doing this when Paak fails, great. I do appreciate the start password as a last resort option.

I am certainly enjoying the drive! I am not as upset about the 2nd fob as some, and I expect things will improve in coming weeks/months. This is not the end of the world. When Paak is so reliable that I'm compelled to switch, I'm sure I will use it. It has capabilities beyond that of the fob and the potential for many more.

My objection here is that Ford decided to remove the long standing redundancy of the 2nd fob without making Paak as good or better than a fob - for everyone. That does not mean I'm a whiner or privileged, I just prefer to stick with things that work.

Everyone will have a pain threshold for different types of annoyances. The fact that mine does not match someone else's does not mean either of us is wrong. I just think Ford made an unforced error here.

People expect this to be perfect right out of the gate. I get it, but it's unreasonable. I think we're still in the 10k cars have been produced range for something that is 100% brand new to Ford. It's just people being entitled and not understanding how technology works and that it will take some time to work out the kinks

I take it *you* feel it is unreasonable. I think most of us here wishing for the 2nd fob would have no problem with Paak's perfection level had we received a 2nd fob. Ford could have given a $100 "early adopter credit" for those desiring only one fob. Plenty of time then to make Paak perfect, anyone who wanted to live with it as is would be perfectly free.....

Lots of bells and whistles on this car, but a traditional 2nd fob would be an entitlement?

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but I think most of us here understand technology just fine. Some of us even work in fields where removing proven functionality/redundancy in favor of an "upgrade" with this level of performance would put us on the street.

I don't want to fight with anyone here, but I sometimes tire of this issue being treated dismissively. If you are satisfied, I am happy for you. Carry on. Please don't tell me my concern is invalid because you do not share that concern.

I just saw someone the other day trying to get in their Tesla Y. They pressed the door handle 3 times, but couldn't get in. Another person had to pull out their phone. The point being it is based on Model 3 door handle that has been out almost 4 years. I personally don't expect phone based keys to be reliable across all phone models and software revisions, far too many variables.

Many people prefer high reliability over things that only work sometimes, especially for a critical feature. It will be a while before the phone is as reliable as the fob, and most tech stuff is no where near 5 nines or even 4 nines reliability.

if someone else is going to drive my car, i have always just handed them the FOB. what do i do in that situation, I dont want to hand them my phone. Being phonless for more than a few minutes would be a disaster! i suppose i can set up codes for them or give them my codes, but kind of a hassle if they are just running to store, or "test" driving it

Ya but mine works better than that so just take a deep breathe ??. Just like any tech someone doesn't have your issues so you are a complainer or don't know what you are doing. That is what feed back is for and that is how issues are known and fixed. It works for me has no real place in that process and is just counter productive and self serving. Once you see no key detected it gives you almost the same type of gun shyness as plugging it back in after it killed your 12V. I have a second fob on order I will tie a fob and a phone to both our profiles. Redundant where r u? Not a huge deal for me and just did it after what I saw.
