Glad you found exactly what you were looking for. You should be aware, however, the implications are very much different from what you think you found. The statement implied, very clearly to those not damned determined to hate on EVs, that should the slight issues with long distance traveling by EV related to an immature charging network (which is improving very rapidly) and the extra 15 minutes needed to charge, then there are easy ways to avoid those issues.

Conversely, for the 95% of most miles driven, the ICE-only owner must always suffer the far less convenient and more expensive gas station fillips, and much more frequent maintenance issues of ICE ownership, and noisy driving, and poor responsiveness, and lack of drivetrain smoothness, 100% of the time.

Thanks for playing.

Sigh.

My feeling is that some folks who expect others to agree to their absolute positions on things here would benefit from taking a step back. Singing the praises of something you believe in is great, trying to convince others is fine. Hurling insults doesn't really help if your intent/hope is to bring someone over to your way of thinking. There are folks here who have expressed beliefs with which I totally disagree, but I try to respect their opinions and not call them morons. There are others (including one recently departed) with whom I might agree in general on a particular topic, but their exchanges were so toxic that I wished they would just stop.

For all products, different people have different priorities. One person's preferences does not make their choices invalid, no matter how misguided one may think they are. Look at phones - expandable memory, size, headphone jack, wireless charging, ecosystem are all features that different people value differently. Telling someone he's an idiot for wanting a headphone jack doesn't really help anyone. Robust discussions and even arguments are fine, don't think I have ever seen anyone successfully change someone else's mind by constantly berating them. Even if you disagree on what the actual facts are, beating them over the head is pretty unlikely to convince them.

Have a good one.

America is still another leap in battery tech away from mainstream vehicle electrification. Li-ion is light years better than NiMH for EVs, but it’s still too heavy, too expensive, too slow to recharge, and too limited in range.

Simply put, we’re not going to get there on Lithium. It doesn’t matter how many hundreds of billions of new debt are dumped into expanding public charging infrastructure, or how much the government subsidizes EV purchases. America is not Norway. America is built on the “open road.” Americans want the open road. And EVs aren’t great for road trips. Expecting most Americans to adopt “the EV lifestyle” of carefully plotting out routes and “stopping to smell the roses” and other euphemisms for waiting to charge, is absurd. This isn’t all that different from the high speed rail mass transit fantasy that simply doesn’t work for the vast majority of America.

I love my MME, but I wouldn’t love it quite as much if I didn’t still have an ICE as a backup. And that pretty much tells you all you need to know. For the foreseeable future, until that next big jump in battery tech, EVs like the MME will remain luxury hobby vehicles. And that’s fine with me.

I think you are taking your personal situation and projecting it onto the rest of the population. I managed to pass the last decade without a single road trip. I just need a car so I can get to work and pick up groceries and whatever else I need to do around town. If I need to go somewhere far, I just take an uber to the airport, and fly there, while consuming reasonable quantities of bloody marys. There are millions of people like me, who don't need a car for the one or two annual trips to visit grandma.

Ha, I wonder if there will be any new cars at all in the $20s in a few years. Maybe time for Yugo to come back? Or the electric Adobe (E-dobe)?

People often act irrationally. Reminds me of a guy I knew who purchased a brand new F350 so that he could drag a brand new 5th wheel to the mountains every weekend. While there he read books and his wife watched sports. For the money he spent, he could have easily bought a cabin and spent his weekend nights in a real bed. After 3 years he got rid of the truck and the 5th wheel, and did buy a cabin, but not before losing a ton of money in depreciation.

No argument there, but for me, the insults make the threads go off the rails.

I think people can be nice even while vigorously disagreeing. They just have to want do that.
