I didn't. I paid X-plan pricing. But I would have paid MSRP - that's the price of buying a brand new model with demand that outstrips supply. If cars were sitting around on dealer lots I would not pay MSRP. I had ordered one and was willing to wait, but my dealer got one in that someone had decided not to buy, an exact match for what I had ordered. They gave me X-plan pricing and limited fees, they knew how to do Ford Options and got all the details correct, and were otherwise super helpful along the way. Klaben Ford in Kent, OH.

The bottom line is that the op was just here to present an agenda. Continuing to argue about other topics in it only extends the effect.

A lot of dealers are going to have cars coming off demo period (4k miles or 4 months, whichever comes first). If you don't mind a few miles on it, you can find one at or below MSRP. Not sure if it's true in all states, but generally they will be on dealer plates and not titled, so still eligible for the 7.5k credit. The demo mileage also does not count against warranty. Another way to skip the line, and you can quite likely take the car home for a day before buying.
The dealership near me that has a demo put actual plates on it so it could go into their loaner program, so I don't think it would still be eligible for the 7500 credit. ?

Are they dealer plates? If so I'd think that it's not actually titled yet, which is what matters. Ask them if it has a Certificate of Origin or a title.

If it were only price, I wouldn't car, It's everything else around it. The system is designed to mislead, manipulate, trick and steal from you, even if all of it might be legal.

Tesla may sell you a car with a roof that flies off but as far as I know nobody is hiding in the bushes waiting to mug you, which is exactly what it feels like in every car dealer I've ever visited.

I inquired about the demo at my local dealership, and she said even though it's sold as used, it's still eligible for the tax credit and still has the remaining 3-year warranty (minus the mileage already on it). They stuck plates on it when I took it home for the weekend, so I don't think that really matters. You'd be the first owner still.

She also told me that due to demand, there'd be very little taken off MSRP for it. I estimate the one near me will have about 1500 miles when its 4 months are up. If my first one falls through (it's a customer order RWD that he said he didn't want, and he ordered a different AWD model, but he apparently still can buy the first if he decides he wants it...), I'll probably go with the demo -- won't even have to re-pair my phone :D

Strictly speaking… if the roof flies off my car I’d feel a little mugged. ? For certain I don’t like the dealership model either, but Ford could also pay a fixed amount for each Mach E transaction processed, and only take orders directly. I thought that would have been a consideration this time but change takes time.

I think this was on Jalopnik, but there was an interview with a GM executive on the rising prices of cars. He said something to the effect of "everybody wins with higher prices, the shareholders, company and the dealers". Customers apparently never entered his mind.

Everything that happens after you agree on a price is an attempt to rip you off. From the trade, to the extended warranty, to the financing, to add-ons, it's all there to get you to pay more than you have to, in some fashion, or give you less than they have to.

That's debatable. There are certainly plenty of dealers that try to rip you off, but not all of them.

Agenda? WTF does that mean? I had no agenda... only stating fact. Ford dealers are notorious for putting markups on their cars, the gt350, gt500, raptor, etc... It is greed, and I'm calling them out on it. I like FORD... I dislike greed.

It's not dealer plates and has a temp paper registration in the window. I plan on asking when I go to the dealership on Monday. The demo they have is the exact build I want except without the extra mats. So I'm thinking about buying it, buy only if it's still eligible for me to get the fed credit on. Otherwise I'll wait for my order to come.

I have located several Mach E vehicles available for sale in the Carolinas and Virginia. The catch is that each one of them have a $5,000 "Market Adjustment Fee" tacked on to the sticker. The tax credit was one of the deciding factors when I decided to purchase the Ford versus the Tesla. I just can't justify the purchase at $5k over msrp... Sorry Ford, it looks like your greedy dealer network will cost you at least 1 Mach E sale this quarter.
It won't likely cost any Mach-E sales, as they're a hot commodity and sell almost immediately. That's why some are able to sell them at a higher price, just like how if they weren't selling well, they'd be stuck selling below MSRP. Works both ways.
