The only thing I miss from my Tesla Model 3 was that it was a compact car.

I've always been a compact car person throughout my life, I just like the feel a lot more and way easier to park if I go to San francisco.

BUT, I looked up the dimensions comparing the mach e to the model 3, and the Mach-e is only ONE INCH longer and ONE inch wider than a model 3. It's barely any difference at all but it just feels so different. I wonder why that is

The MME is heavier, but I’m guessing that it’s because the full-lock turning radius is larger for the MME than the M3. I could just be totally off base too.

Well Ford calls it a SUV on their website. I think it's more like a slightly lifted station wagon.

As an F150 guy, I feel it is definitely a cross-over. But to me an SUV is an explorer or expedition.
To my wife, coming from an Escape (a compact SUV to her), it’s an SUV. The labels are somewhat arbitrary so call it what you want.

I'm a smaller car guy myself, and I know what you mean. I think the difference is the height; it is easily the tallest car I've had as "MY" car. Parked next to my wife's Durangos (she's had 3), my mustang coupes always looked much lower and thus made her Durango look huge. Her Durango is only a little bit taller (6 to 8 inches) than the Mach-E, and as I get used to the size of the Mach E her Durango doesn't look nearly as big. I keep my seat at the lowest height and since the Mach E handles so well in the twisties when driving it feels like a smaller car to me than it really is.

As for the classification, my wife's Durango is what I think of when I hear "SUV". IMO the ground clearance and the fact that it is shorter than the Durango puts the Mach E squarely in the crossover segment.

It's a sports sedan. The ground clearance is close to the M3 and less than the MY. To call it a cross-over is really a stretch. That said, I think calling the MY a cross-over is a stretch too.

It looks like a crossover in basic dimensions, but technically crossovers are imitation SUVs built on a car chassis. The MME has its own chassis so it might not meet the technical definition of a crossover.

I would call it a crossover because it looks more like a crossover than an SUV.

It’s funny because I sometimes refer to my Blazer as a station wagon - a 4x4 3-door station wagon. Sometimes I call it a convertible. ?

Since I don’t have one yet, I have no idea what CA DMV calls the MME. It’s listed in 2 places on Ford’s web site, under the Mustang link and under the SUV link. I guess I would go with what the manufacturer calls it.

I would call it a crossover, but Ford calls it a SUV. If I ignore Ford's label, then I lose the argument of "it's a Mustang because Ford calls it so".

Pretty much why I would opt to call it an SUV. Besides if the manufacturer doesn’t categorize it correctly, what does that say about their smarts (and by extension the smarts of the buyers)?
