On the video close up, it looks like the aero covers are shiny black and surround the bolts. I am hoping the can be popped right off without touching the bolts. I would be great if we could see a close up hi def pic of them without the covers to see what the finish looks like behind them.

That close up confirms CrossContact RX tires for the GT. Not great reviews on them from what I'm seeing. :-(

Depends where you look. I just pulled up a bunch of good reviews. Either way better than having to be stuck with summer tires heading into next winter.

I still have all 4 summer tires from my Edge ST that I traded my MME for just sitting in my garage. I got a few thousand miles on them before it got too cold and I had to switch to all seasons. I love the PE wheels, but the cost of that package, plus figuring in buying a set of all seasons after that, I stuck with just the GT.

Yeah, so-so, but some of that could the be result of chassis parameters or other factors specific to the vehicles the reviewer is using to evaluate the tire. Hopefully we'll get some GT reviews soon, some of which are bound to discuss the OEM tire choice.

Have you shortlisted any particular all-season tire yet for your GT?

It's interesting to me that, from what I can tell, performance (including high, ultra, etc.) all-season tires are rarely chosen as an OEM tire by manufacturers. I wonder why that is. It seems to me that it would be a reasonable choice for a performance vehicle. But they tend to either go all the way to a summer tire, or stay with a standard non-performance all season tire.

I currently have Pirelli Scorpion Zero A/S Plus on my BMW M40i which has been an EXCELLENT tire for the SUV. Great handling, response, treadwear, reasonable noise levels.... If I replace the Continentals right off the bat, that's probably the tire I'd go with in a 245/45R20 size.

Ditto. It is kind of annoying they didn't allow for a magneride upgrade but I guess for the first round of vehicles they're probably trying to streamline the build process but also make the PE more desirable.

I put conti pure contacts on my daily for the noise reduction and have been super happy with them. That said I’m probably going to go with Michelin’s EV pilot sport for this car. No one has been able to dethrone the 4 or 4s for a street driven performance car imo. At least in our relatively temperate climate. Hoping the EV one performs similarly.

As to your point about manufacturers choice of tire, whether or not a car comes with PS4s part of how I judge if the design team was allowed to do what they want or if they were forced to cut costs. May not be relevant in this case as the Michelin’s aren’t out yet.

I really don't see it having that much impact. The PE has 10 miles less range, on stickier summer tires. I can't see the covers off making the range worse than that.

Car and Driver did Model 3 test with/without covers and saw only 2.5% hit at 70mph. betting it's even less than that since there are still some pretty large gaps in the wheel on the GT with aero cover to increase drag.

Most people drive faster than 70 mph on the highway, at least from what I have experienced. Myself included. A test at 75 mph is much more accurate for what most people do, and I think the covers on the MME GT are just as significant as those on the M3, maybe more so because they are bigger wheels with likely a higher ventilation and aerodynamic resistance. Maybe it is less than a 5% hit, but I bet it is at least 5% at 75 mph. Anyway, we are both guessing so maybe someone will do a test and we will know the answer.

So I guess nothing about the GT from the Chicago auto show? I get it that they're wanting to get content out on the new EVs not out yet, but I figured there'd at least be something about the GT too. If we didn't get the pictures here on it we wouldn't have seen anything. I can't even find the same pictures online anywhere, not sure how the poster found them to put here.

The new BMW interior looks super nice though, different price bracket but I'm impressed. If only the front didn't have that ridiculous new design that BMW has committed to.

Just watched the video...that is a very uncomfortable amount of torque steer. For the GT did they just rework the front motor? Wonder if there's too much front bias power.
The GT actually has 60% power from the back where the standard one is 50/50. The problem is Ford is stubborn and won't put bigger tires on. Any vehicle that goes 0-60 in under 4 seconds needs at least 275 width tires to grab the road.
