I used the charging mat a handful of times and my phone was overheating. Shortly afterwards it developed a display fault and had to be sent back to Samsung for a new display.

So, 2 questions ...
1. anyone else had the same, or similar issue?
2. can I turn off the charging mat?

  1. No
  2. Why? You don't have to put your phone there
My phone is running warmer than normal, even when I don't put on the pad and leave it in my pocket, when running Android Auto.

Just move your phone to the other side of the matt. There’s no wireless charger over there.

I could, but then I can't open it. It is the Fold, so can't open if on the wrong side. Hard to read if not opened.

Wow. Seems like I am not alone. Wonder if Ford will pay for the repair of my phone and the real inconvenience of not having it, and all I have on it, for over 10 days! Seems like a pretty poor solution if you can't use the phone AND charge it, because it charges so slowly, or not at all.

The lack of a cigar lighter socket also limits what I can use, camera, charger wise.

When compared to the options on the Lightning, the Ionic5, etc. this seems really poor.

You could do some research? There is a USB-A and USB-C...(a camera with a fixed lighter plug/socket???)

Are the UK models different from the US version? In the US we have one cigar lighter in the armrest and one in the rear storage area. We also have a USB-A and USB-C data/power ports under the screen and another pair (power only) behind the armrest. I don't understand what you find so limiting.

I don't think Ford will offer to pay for any of the things you mentioned.
Pretty sure Ford is expecting you to drive your car and not use the phone while driving. Probably why they included Android Auto, CarPlay and the Ford Apps. Also some cool stuff on the SYNC screen like navigation, terrestrial radio and satellite stations.

The wireless charger in my MME usually adds charge to my iPhone 12 Pro Max while driving. If I need greater charge than the car will provide on my drive, I connect it to one of the 2 USB ports there.

I also don’t use my phone while driving. That’s what the voice controls, Sync4a, and CarPlay are for.

Wow, why so aggressive with the replies? I'm just sharing thoughts

I don't mean holding the phone, I mean using Android Auto, or handsfree PLUS charging on the mat. I would have thought this was exactly what it was meant for. I haven't held a mobile phone while driving since I got my first Motorola in car kit. Why would I?

I think that this car is limited in what it provides because all of the new competitors provide an invertor to allow users to plug in PC's, etc. They have the tech, on the Lightning, so no reason not to add it. Not having a high power cigar lighter and only having one in the 'between seat' are and one in the boot is not great. As there is such a strong source of power, it seems like shortsightedness not to capitalise on the one thing they DO have.

Have you ever used a wireless charger prior to using the one in the car? They all cook phones, building excessive heat and poetically damaging your phone. I don't think there a good idea.

If your phone needs a charge, plug it in, much more efficient.

I actually set my phone down with the top side of it on my wallet to get a better peaking angle and prevent the wireless charge ?

I ONLY ever charge my iPhone 12 Pro using Qi chargers. I charge it every night on one, and I also charge it in the Mach-E when driving. No issues for me. Sure it gets warm at times but never to the point of destruction ?

Yes. I've used the Samsung charger with no issues. doesn't seem to generate as much heat and I use it to play music and take calls when on the Samsung charger.

I think plugging it in is the best option, so not sure why the mat is there.

I'll put something underneath it, but beware of putting your wallet there, as it warns that the charging mat can fry your credit cards (the magnetic strip elements, I am guessing).

That first quote is why you’re getting the responses that lead to that second quote.
