The bonus is at least when I take it to the body shop they will take the dealer sticker off for me. Lol. Mine is pretty deep and it’s plastic so this might get interesting. It’s not actually the garage door that is catching them it’s the mechanism that pulls the door so if you set your tailgate so it doesn’t hit that it would be pretty low.

I know it sucks, the dealer did clean up the scratch pretty well with some touch up paint. It was not as long as the one you are showing. After a couple of weeks you forget about it. :)

My tailgate did a weird thing today ... we were at Target, put our stuff in the back, and then I closed the tailgate with the button. Got into the car and the display said the tailgate was open. Weird. So I went out and closed it again. Got back in my car, and the tailgate had once again gone up. I did this about 2 more times before I decided to close the tailgate and then apply pressure to keep it closed for about 30 seconds. This seemed to work.

It actually came up on its own a few weeks ago when I was loading it up for a trip. Closed it after I was done and went inside to eat breakfast. Came out, and the tailgate was up, with all my stuff just out there for the world to potentially grab. Brushed it off as an aberration, but after what happened today, I'm not so sure.

Now I'm paranoid about the damn tailgate. There was nothing blocking it from closing fully, no critters running underneath it, and I am certain I wasn't accidentally pressing the FOB button.

Yes, it is low, but it prevents exactly that from happening. I have mine set so if it does open for any reason while in the garage, it won't hit. It's still usable and if you're outside there's no issue with pushing it further towards full open.

When we got the car, I looked at how high the hatch opened and thought about changing it. Days later I closed the garage door without closing the hatch. My wife noticed in a few hours later, and we found a very small mark. It's very hard to see, a good portion will polish out, but a tiny piece will need touchup. I plan on asking my dealership body shop to look at it, with the expectation that they say they'll polish it out in a minute as much as they can, and then I can touchup the rest.

I then adjusted the hatch to open lower, AND I padded the part of the garage door that did the damage.

Quick "me too" comment. I've had my car for one month and have had the tailgate open twice on its own. Both times I was in the vicinity, but not with my foot in position to trigger it. I know at least one of those times I had my phone with me, but not the fob.

I have had this happen twice now.. I go into my garage in the morning and found the truck open?
Luckily I have enough room that my trunk lid can open without hitting the door and I set height the first day I brought the car home.

My car is kept Pristine inside the garage. The garage door clearence to the back of the car is about 5 inches. I was working out using the TRX app on the phone near the car. The garage door was open during my workout. At some point I closed the grage door because my dog came in. After a while I looked and realized my trunk looked wedged open. It had opened on its own without me hitting any button. I can only speculate that since my phone was close to the car that when the garage door closed the sensor underneath the bumper picked up the movement and opened the trunk. Which I will turn off moving forward (and I like that feature). Just annoyed, I am sure someone can buff out these scratches but I just don't want to deal with it.

Just had this happen to me. The car is in my garage, locked and charging. I went down to check something, got in started it up and then turned it off, went back upstairs, car walk away locked. I have an attached garage that is right beneath my living room. I sat down on the couch and got a Secure Alert that the trunk was opened. I went down to the garage and found the trunk open. I closed it, the car locked again. I checked under the car to see if anything was under it, there wasn’t. Thankfully I have set the height so it won’t hit the garage door when it’s open or closed and I pull in far enough. I don’t know why it happened, but now I’m going to be paranoid about it opening at random times, particularly outside or in the rain!!! A few notes, the car was locked, I was a floor above it, so maybe in PAAK range. I don’t have the fob nearby.

@Ford Motor Company if you want diagnostic logs let me know.

I haven’t had the rear hatch open inadvertently on me yet, but I do read these forums regularly. When the problem of hitting the garage doors first arose, I made a note of it and adjusted the height as soon as I got the car so it’s well below the lowest part of the door. It’s a pain when unloading or loading at the grocery store or airport, but that on me for forgetting I can still open it all the way.

tl;dr Set your car’s hatch maximum height right away.

Thankfully I did. I did a whole test with ropes to mark off where the highest parts of the hatch were and then opened and closed the door to test. I also padded the arm for the garage door.

I’m more worried about it happening outside though!

What da'heck!!!! The dealer plate frames are bad enough, I've heard dealers using stickers like this but never seen it. In CA you can request the dealer remove them and they have too, I dunno about other states though.

I was a little disappointed I did not have the electric lift tail gate after using a rental car on our trip to Alaska this month. Now I'm not too upset about it lol Don't now why the California Route 1 trim does not come with it though. I almost think I'd rather have an electric frunk though than a truck.

Ugh, that sucks. Is it possible that your dog ran under the bumper?
Sad to hear , but we had something similar. Took the ar to by brothers and his little dogs ran under the back ope ING the boot. Thankfully it was outside, but lesson learned.

Will disabling the foot sensor prevent this?

Also, what is the smallest amount of opening you can set for the liftgate?

Finally, how much distance do you need from the back bumper to the garage door to clear the garage door?
