They have 800V architecture, so why aren't they using for the production Mach-E? That is a game-changer for electric vehicles. That is why I'm going to wait on the Kia Image as it will have 800V architecture and Rimac technology. They could have been ahead of everyone if they bought 800V architecture to the market at an affordable price.
I think you mean the Kia Imagine, not Image.

As I understand it, 800v is not quite ready at an affordable price point. It's probably two maybe three years away from being at nearly the same price point is where 350-400 volt technology is today.

There's nothing wrong with 400 volt technology and as Tesla and Audi have shown, the performance and recharging speeds can rival the best 800 volt system available.

While it is good to see it using the 800v the major disappoint for me is the whole drive train setup. They go to the trouble using compact yasa motors and then use them driving conventional diffs :(, we already have compact combined electric motor and diff combos, bolting a load of yasa motors together to make some mutant twin engine multi rotor electric rx7 does nothing to advance the tech.

Personally would have really liked to have seen a true motor per wheels setup so use 8x units instead for 2x per wheel and really go to town and develop electric torque vectoring, using a diff is just pointless exercise and no different to what we can already do with an ICE, with separate drive per wheel you now have to ability to run a wheel in reverse.
If you can do it better than Ford, then do it, or don't complain about it.

Ford has used present motor technology to produc an amazaing machine, and they deserve admiration for that superb job. We who are real EEs know how frustating and difficult it is to do such a project with the limited resources we can get at hand. I have done my share of design and construction with limited budgets and short schedules as well, so I fully understand what this job may require.

I would have loved to be involved in this project!

That's going to be the frustrating part of being what's still mostly an early-adopter of a BEV. In a few years, batteries and battery architecture could be a whole lot better.

The good news though is that for most people, that really only matters on rare occasion. The vast majority of BEV charging will still take place on L2 at home.

That was worth the wait and teasers. I'll be really neat to see what they do with it down the road. I didn't like the electric whine at the start, but by the end of the video I was really starting to dig it as an alternative to the internal combustion engine noises.
Sounds like an aggressive supercharger coupled with a cold air intake in an ICE car.

That's going to be the great thing about being an early-adopter of a Mustang BEV. We'll be enjoying all they have to offer in an emissions-free vehicles years before improvements in batteries and battery architecture finally win others over.

Love one of Vaughn Gittins' quotes:
"I was pumped that Ford was bringing a new member to the Mustang family. This new member, the Mustang Mach E, that would enable other people that couldn't justify a two-door sports coupe to experience and have that feeling that Mustang gives."

It's also part of the reason I want a GT. < 4s 0-60 acceleration is always going to be fast. As we can see with the Nissan Ariya, it has very respectable performance specifications, range, charging speed and doesn't try to be aspirational like the Mustang Mach-E.

Ariya AWD ER does 0-60 in 5.7s and the Performance variant in 5.1 seconds. Those times are competitive, if not faster than any non-GT MME. Plus it has wider tires 235/55/19s on the regular car and 255s for the Performance.

Certainly pros and cons, no doubt. The ones that plan to only keep the vehicle for a few years get the benefit of continually upgrading to the latest-and greatest. But that's also very expensive.

That's not me though. I'm a "buy a car and keep it until it's nearly all used up" guy. Whatever I get in the Mach-e now will be what I'll be locked into for a decade+ (perhaps the rest of my driving life). Unless maybe there's a major, affordable battery upgrade in 5 years that's worth considering.

And who knows, personal car driving could be largely displaced by autonomous door-to-door shuttle services by the end of the decade anyway. ?

This was one of the reasons why I'd rather drive a Ford or other major manufacturer EV than Tesla.

No shade to Tesla as I'm sure there are some car lovers on their teams, but these sort of skunkworks or tuner components to the traditional car companies like Ford Performance, TRD, Nismo, HRP, are on part what give cars soul.

And by soul, I mean people who put time and effort into making art out of cars, to make them fun, to make them more than just an appliance.

If you look at a lot of the YouTube comments, you still get a few "why is it a Mustang?" comments, but a lot more of "that sound is awesome!"

So I think they are starting to come around.

To me Ford have produced a machine to excite peoples inner 5 year old nothing more. If a giant cloud of smoke is your thing more power to you, everyone likes different things, so if you like it then there is nothing wrong in liking like it and is job done on the ford marketing part.

This is nothing more than another in the endless line of similar machines that turn up a sema every year this time with an electric drive,. I can admire the imagination of these machines and the skill involved in constructing them but that is it as they do nothing for me.

What benefit does this give to an actual mach-e GT owner? Thanks to the wonders of homologation I was able to have my escort cossie upgraded with a whole host of group a ford 909 parts, I don't see anything here, had this been a project that created what GT4 mach-e racer could be then that would have been very interesting as you could see the potential of what could be done with the actual mach-e drivetrain.

This is great for some web page hits and having the mach-e name on people lips again, but the STARD ford fiesta electric rallycross car is far more interesting to me than this will ever be.
