When they say don’t charge to 100% if you’re not going to use it right away…

Does that mean literally ? As in:
1:00:00 - charge hits 100%
1:00:01 - disconnect from charger
1:00:30 get in car, drive away

-OR-
1:00:00 - Charge hits 100%
2:30:00 - unplug car
2:30:30 - Drive away. ?????

In other words, if I’m leaving on a trip in the morning, and want the car fully charged when I leave, do I try to time my charging session to finish as closely to my departure time as possible? Or is it ok to have the car sit at 100% for a couple (up to maybe 6) hours?

Absolutely okay to charge it to 100% and leave it on plug like that for hours and hours before your actual departure time. Totally fine. You are good.

Enjoy your trip!

I’m not going on a trip... yet. Was just a question that’s been bumping around in my head for a while, and I finally got around to posting it.

My Wife always wants to charge it up to 100% but I finally convinced her that it is not necessary unless we are going on a trip. So lately she has been satisfied with a 90% charge! Lol

I normally charge to 90%, but there are times where that extra 30 miles could come in handy.

For the past two weeks they've been ripping up our street. For the past week we couldn't get into our driveway (and I couldn't even get close enough to use my J1772 extension).

So I charged to 100% and it sat a block over for a good 4 days at that charge not being used and not plugged in (also worked from home) until we drove it.

Not really an issue.

Once in a while, no worries for any EV.

Habitually, it'll have an effect.

Ever wonder why your "new" phone starts losing capacity after 6-8 months and needs replacement after 18? Charging to 100% every night is the cause.
