My daughter the other day saw a short video of someone removing some of the plastic sheets on a new car that you usually see on new electronics. She asked me when I get my new car if she could help take some of that off. I think all of that is taken off by the dealership, but I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with a dealer allowing a new car owner to take some of it off by themselves.

I asked my dealer to not touch a thing on my car from the truck and they obliged without a single complaint.

The only thing my dealer didn't remove was the plastic sheet on the cluster behind the steering wheel.

I had the privilege of removing the plastic film from the center screen, driver instrument cluster, and both Mustang door sill plates.

Maybe even the L on the gear shift knob. I was so pleasure stimulated from the other "unboxing" items that I can't clearly recall. ?

mine took them off, but not really - because I still found some days later they had missed, like one (not both!) of the sill plates.

as @Scooby24 suggested just let the salesperson know ahead of time that she'd like the "unboxing" experience as it were. it's less work for them anyway ;)

My Fusion Energi still has the plastic sheet on top of the ICE engine. It looks kind of funky after 7 years and change. Gonna leave it on when I get rid of the car, just because. ??

ah, that's why the Fusion Energi is a PHEV - "plastic-having-engine vehicle"

My dealer didn't touch a thing when they handed the car over to me other than install the rear vehicle tag. I had a lot of plastic to take off when I got it home. There was some white plastic on the exterior as well. After two washes and a clay bar, the paint was so good it barely needed any paint correction prior to a ceramic coat put on. This may be the only way I go with new cars from here on out. That rail dust is no joke and very difficult to remove. I can only imagine what the dealers are using to scrub that stuff off during the first wash leaving swirl marks in the clearcoat.
