Prior to the recent attempt of 1.7.1 my camera delay worked just fine. So you car could be in the same limbo where 1.7.1 is trying to do something but having issues.
I have no doubt I'm in some kind of limbo over the update, but I've had this particular issue for months. And this is a particularly frustrating feature about the Ford software and update system... it's nearly impossible to tell what version of anything one is running, what the upgrade status is, and if bugs are new or regressions.

This seems to be the entire issue. You get 1.7.1 (without any type of notification) and it takes three weeks for it to actually install fully. I don't have 1.7.1 either, but when I got the first attempted install about a month or so ago I had four symptoms that led me to look at what was going on.
-Main Display went dark (not had this issue with the current attempt)
-Alarm always asking to turn off motion
-Camera delay
-Channel presets changing

Prior to the recent attempt of 1.7.1 my camera delay worked just fine. So you car could be in the same limbo where 1.7.1 is trying to do something but having issues.
My July build, the camera delay has never stuck since I got it and it is not on 1.7.- Always have to keep turning it back on, thought that would have been fixed with 1.7.1, geez.

Hey everyone, so since Friday my car has said its on 1.7.1, but I have none of the new features (no frunk button, no Drawing pad, nothing). My vehicle turned automatic updates off and I can't toggle it back on (when I do, as soon as I leave the update screen and come back its toggled off again), I also can no longer set desired update times, they just wont save.

Has anyone else had any issues with the OTA getting seemingly stuck? in total my mdm9650-TCU device has downloaded 5.04 GB of data over the last month and hasn't downloaded anything new since 9/29/21. This is smaller then the update should be so I am not really sure what is going on here.
Yes I have. I too am supposedly updated but don't see any of the features described and my audio went dead, absolutely no sound!

Came out to my car first thing this morning here in balmy Arizona. Overnight temp in garage was 55F. Charge was about 90% last night, and car was parked off charger overnight. When I went to start it first thing, all systems started to flake out. The vehicle started sending pulses of energy throughout the electrical system, pulsing the lights and sending a bursts of energy through the sound system about once per second. No systems work, app thinks car is plugged in (which it is not), not charging, and asleep. Pulses of energy continuing unabated. There is nothing I can do to stop it, and of course, the car is inoperable.
This was likely caused by an almost-dead 12V battery that couldn't support the loads. You will need to charge it back up to unbrick it and get the software updates applied so it doesn't happen again.

Opinion question. A week ago my car updated to 1.7.1, but there was no notification in the app or in the car. All the features seem to be there, notes, CarPlay in the cluster, X button in the upper left when you go into the menu. The only thing seemingly missing is the Frunk button in the access menu, but it sounds like maybe they pulled that from the update as others who received it in the last week did not have it either. My sync version seems to be correct, 21174 PRODUCT.

However, when I go to the system update page it just says “Your System is up-to-date”. No 1.7.1 release notes.

So did my car complete the update or not?

Seems like it’s installed. As for frunk button, I read on here that that needs a BCM update to work, so it may be waiting for that to come OTA. I remember Ford saying it would be late December in a notice.

Oh ya I know it won’t work without the BCM update, but some people seem to have gotten the button on the touch screen with 1.7.1, despite it not doing anything yet. I didn’t, but I also heard that some people who received the update later in the roll out didn’t either.

I've been in communication with Ford's Early Access Team about this since October when I first got into this "stuck" situation. I just heard back today that they apparently have a remote (don't need to go into a dealer) fix for this condition. They asked one last time for me to confirm if my auto update toggle was still not working "before we use your vehicle as one of the first to complete the corrective action".

I'm excited to see if they can fix this remotely, although not 100% thrilled to be one of the first. I'll keep everyone posted, but it at least sounds hopeful that there's a fix ready to go! FWIW, the early access team has been great to work with.

A word of caution before you take that update. Seriously. I have a 2021 Mach E 1st Edition AWD / Extended Range. It has 11k miles. It took the 1.7.1 on 11/9/21. All features appear to be working as described. However, now I am having a catastrophic issue. In the software business we call this a Severity 1 SHOWSTOPPER software defect. (Yeah, I am former software engineer and used to test and "break" very large communications systems for a living.) Here's the issue...

I contacted roadside assistance and am awaiting the truck to arrive now. Meantime I called the dealership in advance to get them ready for my arrival, so to speak. (First thing was I simply wanted to know if they had a qualified Mach E tech on staff. They have two.) The service manger there took my call and has been extremely helpful so far. He ran my VIN and discovered that Ford's 1.7.1 release caused the issue and that Ford has already released patches to fix it. These must be dealer installed.

Where I come from, this constitutes an abject failure to regression test new a software release to ensure it did not break anything with addition of new features. This is a common practice in the software industry, and any software dev organization with any process maturity level whatsoever would know this. Very unfortunate that Ford has let this issue escape their labs, made their customers software testers.

Long story short, my advice is take control of your OTA updates. Don't let them just send them automatically. You schedule each one yourself. 99.999% of the time these types of issues are generally discoverable BEFORE the update goes out to the customers - if Ford, or any other OEM for that matter, has a mature software development operation that knows how to architect, write, integrate and test complex system software such as that required to run an electric vehicle . (6 sigma, anyone?) So before scheduling that update, do your research on the latest software version to identify if any catastrophic issues have resulted. Ford clearly does not have the mechanism in place to prevent such an issue from going out to the field / its customers. My car is a brick right now. So not cool.
Hi there, Darin! This definitely doesn’t sound like the experience we want you to be having. Please send a message to us with your VIN and approximate mileage. I’d like to assist. Thanks!

That’s pretty cool, but I’m kind of confused why they don’t have their own vehicles to dogfood this on

Hey, Ford, we love you guys being active on this forum! But is there any way you can keep resolutions to problems like these open on the forum as well, so others can find, and read about, solutions to these sorts of problems? Thanks!

The optimist in me would like to believe it's because they don't have any cars directly experiencing this bug :p

When are they going to try to remote this to your car?

2.0.x(?) -- January -- there will be our first "inhibit" update that will be of the type that requires the car to be parked, and will make it undrivable while it updates. We'll get a notification and the ability to schedule it, such as for overnight. Should take about an hour ideally. Looks like this will update some drive modules potentially.

My guess is this will be the update that gives us the new charging curve, and the 91kw of useable capacity.

I received a phone call from their team as they pushed the update in real-time. Hopefully within the next hour I'll have something positive to report. Although they mentioned the special signal will be "active" for my VIN for the next 2 weeks.
