There are many people asking this - and hopefully this will not apply soon in the future as they will be all OTA - but here is a comprehensive post on what can be updated as of 12/21, if you need it, and how to get your dealer to update it.
I will try to edit this as information changes and Ford releases software for various vehicles....but this is current as of 12/6/21
First thing's first. When was your car built? Sticker on the door jamb will have the month and year. Note this for the rest of this post.
What can be updated? Post here on OTA updates which lists all modules: https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/ota-updates-technical-info.4923/
If your build date is the following:
5/21 or earlier - you should be eligible for the 21P22 campaign.
6/21 *MAY* have the 21P22 campaign and you can provide your VIN to your dealer to verify.
7/21 (ALL GT's I think) or later do NOT have 21P22 and as of 12/6/21 there are no major updates for these vehicles that are necessary in my opinion. This will change as Ford releases new software. Unless you are having issues with your vehicle there shouldn't be a compelling reason to have any updates done as of writing this document. I would wait for Ford to release the new pack capacity increase and DCFC curve software before wasting time going to a dealer.
What is 21P22? It is a customer satisfaction program that Ford did not notify customers about. It is a suite of software updates for earlier build cars. This is a free update to be done by the dealer. It is 1.3 hours of labor and shouldn't take more than a single day to complete. This is recommended as it has many bug fixes as well as improving the DC fast charging curve and add's 3kWh of usable battery capacity. Details of 21P22 here - includes list of modules updated: https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...gram-21p22-software-calibration-update.11677/
If your car is 21P22 eligible simply ask your dealer to do the 21P22 customer satisfaction program. This should be enough for them to complete this. Note that you do NOT need to have ANY symptoms for the dealer to do 21P22. Some dealers may ask for this but it is a CSP so they do not require symptoms. Ford encourages dealers not to do this CSP alone but they do not prohibit it. If your dealer refuses find a different dealer or come up with any symptom at all (you probably have something that doesn't always work right!) and they should do it.
Possible additional updates for Pre 7/21 built cars.
IPMA - This is the computer that processes all cameras/sensors related to driver assist. View this TSB to see a list of concerns that makes it eligible. Simply give your dealer one or more of these concerns and they should perform this update if available. https://www.macheforum.com/site/thr...tance-feature-concerns-and-or-ipma-dtcs.8177/
APIM - This is completed with the 1.7.1 OTA update but dealers should be able to do it too if you haven't gotten the OTA. Reference this TSB for a list of concerns that makes it eligible. Simply give your dealer one or more of these concerns and they should perform this update if available. https://www.macheforum.com/site/threads/tsb-21-2310-various-sync-4-concerns.10434/
Other various modules - Search this forum for SSM/TSBs related to DTCs or concerns. Some may be rectified by module updates. Most are covered with the 21P22 update but bring these concerns up with your dealer - there may be new software available. Review the 21P22 campaign to make sure that module isn't included in that suite of updates.
A few notes... Your dealer DOES NOT need the car for 2+ days to do all of these updates. The longest two updates are the IPMA (2+ hours) and RFA (~30 mins). The tech does not need to sit and wait while it updates. He can go work on another vehicle. If only doing 21P22 they shouldn't even need your car half of a day. Find a different dealer if yours does not know what they are doing. The 21P22 documentation for dealers walks them through exactly how to do the updates.
