My dealer has been having issues r installing the 1.7.1 update and after they worked with Ford, they decided to go with a new APIM module as well. I'm currently waiting for that to be delivered and then the dealer will do the install. Hopefully this will finally be the fix for all the problems.

Did they try installing the CSP 21P22 update, or the TSB 21-2310 update?

The TSB 21-2310 is what they tried to install 4-5 times and nothing worked. It keeps failing at the same point and it seems like the module is blocked and not allowing for updates. Due to this, they decided to go ahead with ordering a new APIM.

CSP 21P22 just came out when the dealership ordered the APIM and they are going to wait until they get the new APIM module before they try doing any further updates.

I wonder if CSP 21P22 needs to be updated first. I am going to the dealer on Thursday and having them do this, and if 1.7.1 still doesn't show up, do the TSB 21-2310.

My dealer installed 21P22 first before attempting the TSB 21-2310. The APIM update continued to fail at a certain point. Today my dealer was instructed to purchase 64GB memory cards for a "workaround" that will be attempted tomorrow. We'll see how it goes!

Let me know how it goes! My new APIM module hasn't arrived yet, so if this works with your dealership, I will make sure to let mine know. Is there any reason why ford wants them to use such large memory cards when the updates are only a few GB? Is it due to an the files having to be uncompressed during installation or something?

I'm also curious to know what kind of memory card Ford suggests using. If it's a regular USB 3 64gb thumb stick, I may just go buy a good one myself and give to the dealership to use if that will make it easier and therefore get my car back to me sooner.

Looks like my 1.7.1 update went mostly OK a few days ago, started it up and everything was there and working. Got successful notification on the FordPass app. Sync version was updated, it still says “System Up To Date” though on software updates tab, assuming this is normal. Two days later the update success checkmark showed up on the vehicle screen.

Only weird thing that happened is today my Sirius thought I didn’t have a subscription so after doing refresh signals and all that to no avail I did a screen reset with the down volume trick and it’s working now. No clue what that was all about but customer support at SXM was useless. So FYI for anyone who experiences that issue.

Is there a specific USB port that needs to be used for the updates? Just wondering if I should get a USB-A drive or a USB-C one.
Also, is there any published specs on what the speed of the USB port is? If the port will accept a high speed drive, I will get one.

This is not for end users. Unless you're using FDRS to update like a dealer does.

I won't be trying to install the updates myself, I will give the USB key to my dealership to use. I don't trust my dealership to get a high quality USB key, so I would rather purchase one myself that I know is reliable and fast, with the hope that it will reduce installation time and potential issues.

This one worked well for me: Used a SAMSUNG 64 GB "FIT Plus" USB 3.2 Flash Drive.

I wonder if the reason Ford wants a 64GB drive or larger is due to the default allocation size used for that capacity drive. It could be the exFAT driver used is limited in what allocation unit size it can handle. Embedded file system drivers can be limited in what they can handle to save code size.

Got the down arrow on the display again and pressed update as soon as I pulled into the garage. Unfortunately it seems the third time is still not a chime for my MME. It downloaded 4GB pretty quick and then stopped, just like the second time.

Edit: spoke too soon. Looks like it's completed! I got Notes and tic tac toe, directions display from CarPlay on the cluster display, and Ford Sync version is now on 21174/168 and FordPass just now is showing update successful in vehicle alert ?
