I have an offer on the table from a Ford Dealer on the following.

2021 Mach E Premium Awd Extended battery in Cabronized Gray.

It’s a dealer demo with 5,500 miles on it.

The offer is Msrp plus they tacked on $1000 for a surface protection that they did while they were using it as a demo. They initially were charging $2500 for this but I got them down to $1000.

What does everyone think of this offer? Pull the trigger or keep waiting the 20+ weeks I have left on the one I ordered?

Up to you, but if you take it make sure they havent registered it so you can still take the $7,500 Federal Tax Credit. Or they need to discount it by that amount

They registered it so I can’t get the credit. But they are applying the 7500 as a rebate. So I’m not losing it.

Personally I’d buy it, but that’s just me (if you get the $7500 off as a rebate). Up to you if $1000 is worth it. I’m buying it because it’s a fun car and I will enjoy driving it, so I’ll pay $1000 to have it 20-30 weeks early. If I were buying it purely as a commuter car probably not.

People on here get bent out of shape over not getting X-plan or paying $1000 more, both of which amount to 2% or less on the price of this car.

Wait for your order.

Im a service manager at a smaller ford dealer. We also got a demo we had to keep for awhile. A lot of people used the car. Your spending a lot of money you might as well as wait for the brand new one just to be safe because I’m sure those weren’t easy 5500 miles put on it. I had the same opportunity but if I’m going to spend that much I want to be the first person to drive it!!! They aren’t giving you a deal really on the surface protection they just dropped it down to their cost.

I understand the struggle of waiting for your order! My build week is Jan 17th… it’s killing me! Hope this helps!

Given that dealer is reducing price by $7500 rebate, I would do it.
5500 miles is not much, too bad they are not going below MSRP instead of adding $1000 markup with 5500 miles on it.

Think of it this way.
If you had to rent a car for 20 weeks it would cost you ($250x20= $5000) in today's rental market.
So for a $1000 you are getting a fun car.

With that mileage it sounds like it might be a Mannequin, check to see if the dealer had the car titled. You will not be eligible for the Tax break if it has. They are supposed to take the $7500 off sale price for Mannequins.

Others may offer better advice, but all and all seems reasonable given the MME market and 2022 price increases.

Like others have said, if you really want it, go for it. I would at least ask what they would give you for trade in if you had a paint protection package. The answer is zero. Offer them a few thousand below, if you really want it, along with the tax rebate. Be prepared to do a deal immediately if they say yes. You can switch financing if you want, later.

That’s funny and makes me think, I should put mine on the market to see what I can get….only 890 miles, PPF, ceramic coating and dealer installed dash cam added….only one bum in the seat ever, no farts ever - guaranteed ?

Also note the warranty started when the dealer put the car in service. You can look up the date with the vin on Fords website. Depending on when that was, you could be losing a good chunk of warranty time

Cool, missed that part. I was ready to jump on a Mannequin, but the few I saw advertised sold before I could get too them. In this market, a bird in hand...well you know.
The only other question is how confident you are that your dealer will not game you when your order arrives.
And get them to assure you that all software is current.

Those sounds like famous last words ........

Jokes apart I get the outrage over paying $1k over MSRP for a used car. However the traditional pricing models have changed dramatically and it's very rare that you can score any car even minutely in demand at MSRP anymore. Most people are paying above MSRP or ADM fees.

The critical thing is whether this is a model close to what you desire and had ordered. I'll leave with a screenshot of what a similar used model we are discussing is retailing for here in CA.
