Get a Tesla or a Volvo or a Jaguar or probably a Hyundai or Kia or basically any EV other than Ford no one else really has this problem.
Some of those are using over boost or have boost buttons.

Not Tesla.

It's something to verify. I prefer not to have boost type response; I want something I can count on.

I find the deception from Ford on this matter to be discouraging. I can't trust them or the REAL media. If it weren't for armature publishing I wouldn't even now about the 5 second full power limitation.

ALL EVs are thermally limited at 'full current'.... different mfg, or modified race cars, may deal with that differently by either allowing higher internal temps (at the expense of life), or enhancing cooling capacity of motor/inverter/battery.

If you want to enhance performance, you can follow either of those paths; hack software to allow over-temp, or improve cooling. The mfg make compromises between weight, cost, performance, and life (warranty).... If the stock performance is not enough for you, you can modify, but likely risk warranty on altered components if you have problems down the road.

Porsche has a 2.5 second limit and only during launch control.

Hummer has a limit, also with launch control.

Hyundai and Kia have a limit only using a boost button.

The only thing unique to Ford is that they hid the limit. That’s also what makes me think it isn’t permanent.

I wouldn't take a chance on it. Why pay the same price as a car that does not have a full power time limit? I might be interested if it were to have no time limit like the Y and the 3, even then I would want to wait and see what happens. Why did they do something like that in the first place.

I suppose it all comes down to price. The cars with boost aren't worth as much to me as a car that has full power all the time, regardless of mfg.

I don’t know that you understood that he point I was making.

I didn’t buy the car betting that they’ll fix the 5 second thing.

I test drove it and it’s awesome as is.

I’m just still hopeful they’ll make it more awesome. 99% of the time, I’ll never floor it more than 5 seconds at a time. But that 1% it would be nice without the limit.

So you’re asking why buy the GTPE instead of the Y?

That’s easy! The GTPE is slower for me 1% of the time and the Y is ugly 100% of the time. ?

Lol, yes this exactly. I never really fell into the trap of published numbers achieved with ideal conditions and a pro driver. They’re good to talk about but I don’t make my decision based on which one has a 0-60 time that’s 0.1s better or not. I try to look at the whole package that the car is offering and I’d say Ford has an edge there even without looks being considered.

They didn't just hide the limit (which is bad enough on its own) their limit is also WAY worse than anyone else's from what I've seen. Porsche loses 15% or so. What do you think the Ford loses? I'd estimate it drops to 300 hp AT BEST which means it's losing nearly 40%.

I have wanted to get a 2021 GTPE... and now a 2022 GTPE. Why has it taken me so long to pull the trigger? It's this damn 5 second motor / battery power-down. I'm not sure what's worse: That Ford did this and tried to hide it, or that they're not discussing any plans to improve the issue.

I completely understand doing this limitation to lower, non-performance trims. But why on Earth would they choose to do this to GT/GTPE editions, that cost upward of $80,000, maybe even more with ADM and the whos-its and whats-its galore that the dealership can "offer" you.

People point to the fact that Tesla allows full power at some sacrifice of battery health, and Ford's trying to avoid that. But I've had Teslas, all the way back to 2013, and have only gotten rid of them to get new ones, never because there was battery degradation. Clearly, Ford had their reasons for this, but to hide it, and not disclose any plans to improve it, is a disservice to the owners of the GT/GTPE trims.

Why not offer a "red key" for the GT or GTPE that will unlock the full power for drivers who this is important to? Again, I've got tens of thousands of miles across multiple Tesla models and trims, and done a lot of back and forth road tripping up and down the California coast, with what normal people would consider a foot laden with lead, and my current fleet are doing just fine in terms of battery health. I love the look of the MME, and I have been intrigued by the car, and want to replace my 3LR with the MME GT. But, man, every time I go to place an order on the website I just get reminded that if I lined up on the street with, well, basically anything, it'll go great for 5 seconds and then I might as well just "turn on the flashers" and pretend I ended the race.

If Tesla can do this, Ford most certainly can as well, learning from the lessons that Tesla has learned through the years. Ford isn't starting from scratch like Tesla did, in reinventing EVs from the dark, dark days of the GM EV1...

Anyways I still really want to order my MME GT in Rapid Red and get in line with everyone else. I have test driven a CR1 and a "regular" Premium and have been impressed each time, with fit and finish, build quality, etc. I also really love the buttons, dials, and the fact it really does feel like a car.

But ugh, seriously, this 5 second rule is just awful. =[

If you can find a way to test drive one, it’ll answer all your questions.

The 5 second thing sucks, for the drag strip or the highway.

But “on the street” as you say, you won’t be racing more than 5 seconds. And very very few cars will be anywhere close on the street after 5 seconds.

And if you order one, you won’t be anywhere near 80k.

My GTPE with every option and x plan cost $61k after $7500 tax credit. 2022 pricing would be $64k.

I really really want them to fix the 5 seconds. But in real world driving, it’s rarely going to limit what you can do.

I really really want them to fix the 5 seconds. But in real world driving, it’s rarely going to limit what you can do.
Prelude: My "fast" car had about 625hp, and would spin the tires madly at low speeds in anything but perfect conditions. I found it breathtakingly fast on the highway (1/4 mile trap speeds around 123mph). But around town, unless you REALLY gave it the beans, it felt slower than the MMEGT. Going from 90 to 120 in 4 seconds is fun, but for me it morphed into "I can't be going this fast, I have too much to lose."

In 5 seconds from a dead stop you are approaching 80MPH. Thats about when it starts pulling power, and becomes roughly equal to a 4X model. The only time I can definitely perceive the power limit is from a highway-speed roll, where it tails off pretty significantly as you approach "arrest-me" speeds.

For around-town or backroad driving, its incredible. Every person who rides in it is amazed at how quick it is. That includes C7 Corvette owners, GT350R owners, and myself with a GT500 (which I actually recently sold).

In short, If you want to do highway roll races, or sustained near-limit canyon-type driving, get a different car. Otherwise, it has plenty of useful performance. I would like to see them up it to 8-10 seconds, though. Just for egotistical reasons I suppose.

Throwing in my two cents. I love my GTPE and it is super quick. And I'm comparing to my Dodge Viper. I track my Viper and have no intention to track my Mach E.
Regardless its annoying that a performance edition has such a limitation. I am hoping for an OTA update to fix.

I think they may be being a bit conservative in seeing what the wiring, motor, battery can handle and may increase the 5 second limit a bit in the future.

But I actually do think Ford doesn’t want the car to be too quick. The GTs might be at the top of the totem pole for now, but the Shelby Mach-Es are coming and they have to leave some legroom for those vehicles, especially if Ford is planning to use the same BorgWarner motors that are found on both axles of the GTs and the rear of the non-GTs.
With the Shelby model in the wings, I'm sure "they" are holding back on the power. I just can't see them selling the electric faster then the IC Shelby GT500. In another few years when the Shelby GT500 and Mach E's are out we should (hope) be able to upgrade out MME GT PE"s. Still love my 2012 GT500 and am taking delivery of my 2021 MME GT PE next week.
