Would you rather have power limited like the Taycan?

Which would you rather have?

The Porsche Taycan overboost feature works a lot differently than the Mach E GT.

You get more power, but only for 2.5 seconds and only while using launch control. But without the overboost, the power drop off is less severe.

The Mach E doesn’t let us use the full power (532hp), but gives us 480hp instead for 5 seconds. No launch control needed, but the drop off in power is severe (around 300hp).

So which would you rather have? Of course we would all pick option C: full power for more than 5 seconds. But that would be too easy?

Got to say, when all the crappy trap times first came out, it got me skittish. I even told my dealer I may back out of my GT. I’m glad I didn’t. I took delivery two days ago, and it blows my mind every time I stomp the pedal. If I was a drag racer, I’d be pissed, but I’m not. I find the current setup pretty acceptable for my driving needs. If they release more juice one day though, I’ll accept it. ?

Long-winded way of saying, give me 5 seconds over 2.5 seconds! After 5 seconds I’m flying so fast I need to let up anyway!

Interesting. 5 to 4 in favor of more power but just for a very short time and only in launch control mode.

Honestly? Kinda surprises me. It would likely be a faster 1/4 mile and 0-60 in launch control mode, but definitely slower without. But you would gain some highway passing speed.

For me, I’ve only borrowed a couple cars with launch control, but they were too much of a pain to actually use on the street. Seems like a drag strip only kinda thing. I wouldn’t give up 80 hp for it.

I like my GT the way it is: 5 seconds is enough for me. I am self limited to 80 mph anyway. But if they give it, I will take it. Because one day I might just test it out. And then that will be it.

I prefer neither of those selections. I want power I can count on, any time I want it. Much more drivable that way.

Prefer neither we need to build the drive train so you can just mash your foot down and go as long as you want there are too many restrictions too many things to remember too many buttons to push it makes it difficult.

Ford is doing a pretty good job of making the transition car the Mustang.
I will say because ford pulling off-the-shelf motors they don't have the flexibility to say other manufacturers do the crate on their own.

I feel like I own a piece of software and not an actual car because they keep telling us the car I'll get better when we add more software features I haven't seen that yet.

I am not someone that gives a damn about games on my dashboard.

Don't get me wrong I still enjoy the car but there are so many areas Ford could've done better much much better we had to pay a lot for something that is basically a beta test car and I knew that going in but they shouldn't promise things and then not deliver like software updates etc. but that's a whole Nother story and for another post.

I had to change my vote because I didn't notice the launch control part. After 2.5 seconds you're going pretty good, but having to put it in launch mode at every red light would suck, and no way you're doing that before passing someone.

My wife ordered a Taycan, ought to be here around the same time as my GT. Will be fun to compare. Pretty sure she has the bigger dick, even though I AM the bigger dick...

I agree. Had launch control on my Focus RS, but the rigamarole you had to go through to activate it made it unusable, except in a pure competition situation. Not usable for street racing.
