Winter/Snow driving

I searched for posts on how the MME handles in the snow. I didn't find anything. How are people doing in the snow? I especially want to know how the RWD version handles. I bought a RWD b/c I saw some videos on the RWD Tesla and it did well. I was hoping my RWD MME would handle fine plus I get the extra range. I know the regen braking will help. The car is 4500 lbs with equal weight distribution so it should be better than my old Sonata with FWD. Let me know.

There has been a lot of discussion on this issue and some recent YouTube videos, but here is my take. I have 60 years driving experience in snow country with all the drive train options and I ordered a CR1 with RWD with similar reasoning as you. I have read or viewed everything I could find on this question to see if my reasoning was viable. I believe a RWD EV handles snow conditions much better than a RWD ICE vehicle, as Tesla has shown, especially if the EV has winter tires. I don't expect to have any serious problems driving in snow, although icy conditions should be avoided regardless what drive train you have. I've see more than one 4WD truck with winter tires in the ditch next to an icy patch.

Having said that: I've had my RWD CA Rt1 for almost a year now (last Feb) in the Detroit area.

It handles snow just fine. Plowed roads pose no problem.

If you're looking for something to take off road in 20" of fresh powder...you should be looking in the Lightning or the Bronco forums...

I just love when people add in the passive aggression statement, "a search would yield more than a new post." Then they go on to give their valuable opinion even though I just wasted their precious time with my annoying and unnecessary post. I did search the forum, and only found info on driving range in the winter, nothing on handling for those who bought RWD. Thanks for the info you gave re winter driving in Mich with a RWD MME. I just wish it came without the 'tude.

That's what I figured. It is encouraging that my 75-year-old brain is still firing on all cylinders (um...an expression that is now obsolete for the EV crowd).

My drive is rare snow but a lot of black ice. MME is AWD.

Speed kills
Use Whisper (modulates power)
One pedal is aggressive enough to induce a slide if you are off your game.
Black-ice: I’ve really got watch air temps as a wet road at 35 degrees F can quickly turn into black ice in the colder areas (draws, canyons, heavy shaded areas) which is to say, if you drive the same route every day.. the same bridge decks freeze, the same valleys are colder, so.. know your route.
