I'm looking for a home charger where the WiFi and SSID broadcast can be disabled. Tesla recently forced both constant WiFi and SSID broadcast on their Gen 3 Wall Charger and I am looking for a unit that allows the user to make their own decisions. Does the ChargePoint Home Flex allow that flexibility? Are there over the air updates that will force the users hand ala Tesla?

Thanks in advance!

Have you asked ChargePoint?

My JuiceBox 48 doesn't require the internet once I've set things up, it uses the stored settings. But then I would give up notifications, and reports, and such.

Also, it doesn't broadcast SSID. Routers do that.

I have a ChargePoint Home Flex, and I don't believe that it can broadcast a Wi-Fi/SSID network, it can only connect to a Wi-Fi network. However, it's been 2+ months since I setup the charger, so I can't remember.

I know that you have to have bluetooth enabled on a smart device to setup the ChargePoint. If I am remembering correctly, the smart device (smartphone or tablet) would connect to the ChargePoint via Bluetooth, and then configure the Wi-Fi network you want to connect the ChargePoint to.

Good Luck!

I have two ChargePoint units. When you install them you do have to set up the WIFI via bluetooth on your phone, so if you do not set that up you will be completely offline.

Both of mine are WIFI connected and the one I bought a few years ago did do one software update, basically an OTA. I like having it connected because I can track my spending for charging that way. It knows the GPS location and automatically sets the rates based on my power company, APS, including the fact that I only charge off-peak.

The ChargePoint‘s SSID is just used for the initial setup. After that, it’s just a WiFi client that connects to you home router’s SSID, so it doesn’t broadcast its own.
