I also sold my Mach E do to this and the woeful software. I have a BMW i4 coming soon.
So you sold it due to a bad experience with a first year model and decided to buy a different first year model?

I know, I know :) But KIA have reliability reputation, and in fact everything works so far.

That was for the i4 guy, but applies to you too I guess.

Never heard that “Kia has a reliability reputation.” They’re definitely way better than they used to be, but they don’t seem to age as well as other cars. Used Kia’s don’t seem to hold up well (paint, interior etc).

That said, cars in general seem to be more reliable than those in the past.

Enjoy your new ride! They make different cars for a reason. Not everyone likes the same thing.

Had to look it up. Neither Ford nor Kia made the top 10 reliability rankings for CS. But my comment was more about a first year model than the brand.

Wow look at how much worse everyone did in the 2022 study!

In the 2021 study, the average was 121 problems. In 2022, the “best” was 145! And the average raised to 190!

I wonder if they changed what they look at. That’s too much of a change in 1 year.
Pandemic effect? People drive less in traffic.

I would think the pandemic effect would be: factories understaffed with stressed out and less experienced workers plus supply chain issues could decrease parts quality which results in inferior products.

Hopefully it’s just a change in what they count.

Factories are heavily automated, and we will have to wait more to see effect of pandemic effects on vehicle reliability. Anyway, South Korea had one of the best pandemic response!

Eh, at least the infotainment system doesn't run at 15 frames per second. Some people prioritize different things in vehicles. Software and tech is more important to me than anything else. This includes CPU / GPU power in the infotainment system. I'll gladly eat my own foot if the i4 turns out to be worse than the mach-e at this, but it won't (already checked and did my research).

I owned a tesla, and it seems like the software is good in that, but it compromises too many other things.

Also, I checked to see if there was a buzz noise in the i4 cabin. Wasn't there. I got literal headaches in the mach e everytime I drove it. I'm driving a beater honda accord till the i4 arrives. And even in the accord there's no headache inducing buzz.

I don't have this problem anymore - I switched to EV6.
The whine remains my biggest issue with my Mach E. I probably would have switched away from Mach E if not for the promise of hands free high way driving (i.e. BlueCruise). Maybe I’ll decided that BlueCruise isn’t worth it once I finally have it installed on my MME.

Can you share more details on your EV6 purchase experience? What configuration, how much, did you reserve/order in advance?

Additionally, I read that EV6 only has wired (no wireless) CarPlay and Android Auto. Is this true?

Sure.
  • 2022 First Edition EV6 AWD
  • 59k + 4k markup
  • But traded in MME for $47k! Its just $2k below the price I paid a year ago, taking tax credit into consideration. Its had 16k miles and couple of light dents.
  • No reserve in advance.
  • Yes, EV6 have only wired CarPlay and no promises of wireless one. But I think hardware is capable of it. Anyway, it was so awful in MME so I was always using wired. No promise is better than no met promise :)
