Microsoft has Fluent, Apple has Human Interface Guidelines, Google has ? (Ugly?) Does Ford have any design language / standards / guidelines / whatever for the Sync 4 system? To be honest, it seems a hodgepodge of styles and is very inconsistent in appearance and operation - visually, tactically, and audibly/ vocally.

From the looks of it they tried to do a combination of traditional car UI (when there were physical buttons) and mimicking Tesla. There are definitely issues and things that just don't make sense. For example, why can't I choose to have the the mode animation or lane assist? Why do we have a large car graphic for lane assist with all the empty space on either side of the car. I know if you have navigation on you see the next turn but without navigating it seems like a waste of real estate that could be better used. Again in the old days of physical buttons or dials, car manufacturers would have empty space for where the buttons would be. That's very much old school thinking of UX and a necessary one when you have physical buttons and physical styles. It seems like some that old style thinking still exists with car UI design.

Doubtful, and I sort of agree. It feels very much like a rushed UI design that doesn't flow well with itself, with differing styles and animations throughout, instead of universal themes.
By the way, I believe Google's is called "Material" theme, at least on Android.

Thanks. I’ve never seen Android, so I don’t know what it looks like. I was referring to their websites and Google earth, which is the only Google app that I’ve seen/used.

Honestly seems like the IPC and Sync were designed by completely different teams. The IPC is so much more refined.
