The volume knob can actually be pushed in

I was playing around with the somewhat squeaky volume knob today and I noticed that pushing it in actually has a function! If you push it in for a second or two, the screen goes into this minimalist mode. I had not read about this anywhere yet, so apologies if this is commonly known already.

This makes me optimistic for what Ford can do with the knob in the future (i.e. fan speed, heated seats etc.).

BTW, does your knob also squeak?

Yes, it always pushed in.

With new OTAs a longer push will bring you to CALM screen. Tapping the screen will bring it back.

I'm hoping they will program it to be 'programmable' in the settings screen

no clicks = volume (a changeable default e.g. make the default the temp)

1 click = Calm screen

2 clicks = temp

3 clicks = radio/sirius quick station change (tapping the right/left arrow on screen is slooooow)

or any other function you can think of (mode changes? whisper/engage/unbridled.)

And if you don't touch it defaults back to 'original'.

None of the above? I don’t use whatever a Calm screen is. I never use the knob for volume as I can just click the button on the steering wheel where my hand already is. If I’m changing temps it’s only 1-2* most times and a press or two on the touch screen is fine. All my radio presets are tiles on the screen, if I’m lazily scrolling through them the buttons on the steering wheel work fine. I don’t ever change drive modes…not even sure why I would?

I wouldn’t care if they removed the knob altogether. The most use I have gotten out of it is explaining to other people how it works by riding on the touchscreen lol.

I mean, no harm in adding features to this for others, you don't have to use it if you don't want to. A quick access to temperature is a no brainer imo, this is the most distracting function for me if I miss the button in my peripheral vision. Just my two cents though.

Agree. Changing the temp is the thing that causes me to look away from the road the longest!

FYI, changing temp can be done with a voice command.

I don't use voice commands that often. It seems to me that the car accepts voice commands but when I have Apple Play connected, when I push the voice commands button it defaults to Siri (or my phone and not the car). I only use voice commands to respond to texts or to have my phone call someone in my contacts. Again, it seems this is my phone doing this. I wasn't sure how to not get my phone but to get the Mach E to respond. Maybe I'm off on this. It is one of those things I never think about until I am driving (so I never bother to look it up later). I'm sure there is something I'm missing. I would like to tell the car what temperature to set. That would be helpful.

I agree 100%, there is no harm in adding features I wouldn’t use as long as it doesn’t negatively affect the features I do use. I was merely mentioning I wouldn’t use them. I wouldn’t actually expect Ford to remove the volume knob just because I don’t use it.

I'm pretty sure CarPlay works the same as AA regarding the voice command button. Short press and you are talking to the car, long press you are talking to Siri/Google.

On my vehicle a quick press of the voice command button connects me to the car, a long press connects me to Siri.

That makes total sense - and I am sure I was holding it in until I heard Siri. I'll try short next time.
Thanks! ?

Thanks. I knew there was some little piece of information I needed. I can't wait to try it because setting the temp with the slider (or pushing the button) is annoying to me. But I'm not a complainer so I've lived with it ?
