I got a mesaage today that I am eligible to get the Blue Cruise update. The car will be completely unusable during the updates and they suggest that I schedule the updates M-F 8am-11pm when I am most like to need the car. They have to be kidding. This is the kind of thing that should be done overnight while were sleeping

I believe that you can schedule the install time to something that better suits your schedule. If you go to the settings page > Software Updates, you can set the days and time in which you want the car to install updates.

They seriously want you to consider setting it for sometime in that time period (not the whole time period) but also say, if you cannot, set it for anything except 12:00am...

Sounds serious to me.

Set you car for 8 PM to 11 PM every night and let it do it's thing. I highly doubt you drive your car every night during those times. If you do then you can set morning hours. Some time in that window is usable for everyone.

You can also just turn off automatic update and manually start it when you are more comfortable. Stop being so dramatic.

The problem is you never know when you may need the car in an emergency or urgent situation. If something comes up and you need to use it at an off time when the update is being done you’re stuck. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t schedule the updates in the middle of the night when people are least likely to need their car.

You get to schedule then when you want them.

The recommend you consider sometime in that timeframe. So if there is an issue, someone will be awake to answer the phone.

You can do exactly that. Maybe you shouldn't have joined Early Access Program? Sounds like you are not a good fit, which is fine.

Wouldn’t the same issue occur whether you do this now as part of early access or a year from now when everyone gets it?

That is called an Outlier and is not an everyday situation. Saying Ford is unreasonable for asking you to pick and time that works best for you, but you can't be bothered is not a Ford problem.

If Ford said schedule for 2 AM to 4 AM someone would complain "What if I had to take my child to the ER?"

It's called Life. Find a scheduled time that works for YOU, or let Ford decide for you.

That would make sense if they said the update will be tonight for example and then I would know if a particular time slot is Ok but without knowing what day it going to be done its hard to just block out a 3or 4 hour time slot and accept that there is always a chance your car may be unusable during those hours.

to date I have never gotten a notice that an OTA was being done until after it has happend

you need to read your e-mail again. It's only so you can reach someone if you have issues, this won't be a part of it on a wider rollout. You are getting special access.

Then don't schedule the installs at all. You can just choose "update now" when you know you're not going to be using the car for a bit.

That's because these are the first updates that require downtime.

Why do you think you'll need 3 to 4 hours?

You could also turn off the schedule and then manually decide to install it when you are ready. They "recommend" picking a time in that 15 hour window because, as an early access member, they want someone to be available to help out if something goes wrong
