My FE has the same stereo problem. I read one post somewhere that the sub speaker is very small and lacks in bass. The stereo in my 2014 cmax blows away the Mach e's. I have also tried all the settings and it has made no difference. I thought this stereo was supposably like 1000 watts. The overall quality of the radio is minimal. I would be surprised if an update would solve the problem.

But doesn’t it seem weird to have to set the balance to the back of the back seat to get centered sound. And if you move that sound one more notch rearward, then you have almost NO sound. Doesn’t seem right at all.
Ford told the tech at my dealer to do a “pin test”. I never got a word back.
It does, but it also appears to be off in terms of the picture. Where I have it placed gave me a good balance of sound between front and back.

You are right though, any further back it’s almost all back.

Today’s update.
Tech did some pinpoint testing yesterday as directed by Ford. Sent the results to Ford and as of this morning we’re still waiting to hear what else they say. So I still don’t have my car back. It’s 57° at 10AM. I really wanted to detail my car today. ?

Got the car back. Everything tested fine. All updates were done. There was nothing available for the DSP. Pinpoint tests were good. Wires tested good. Tech finally pulled a front and a rear speaker. Per him, the rear speakers are tiny and underpowered. You’ll never get much sound of them. He says the magnets are the size of a 50¢ piece. He says the front door speakers have drivers 4 times the size. So good luck ever getting much sound out of the back.

But don't your Premiums have the same speakers?

Yes. But the balance was much better in them. I still moved it slightly rearward to get what I called “centered.” In this car I have to move it all the way to the trunk. And the sound still seems a bit too far forward to me.

It doesn't seem like the speaker size is the problem then. Not sure what else you can really do though if the dealer says everything tests normal.

Do you have the 6 speaker or 10 speaker system? 6 only has one speaker in the rear doors, 10 has a woofer and a tweeter (2 speakers).

It’s a GT-PE with B&O. I assume 10 speakers. Can’t imagine it’s not the “premium” at least.

Bring up the FM radio display.

Next, hold down the Volume Down and Previous Track buttons on your steering wheel for 10 seconds.

Enjoy!
Ok. I tried this. I found the DSP diagnostics/ speaker test. Everything on the test is very low volume. And I’m not sure if I’m just not hearing it or the tone is one that I can’t hear, but speakers 7 and 8 I can’t hear anything.
A diagnostic with no pass/fail instructions seems to be not helpful at all.
Do you have any insights?

Rod,

I gave the speaker walk around test a try on my vehicle. You're right -- no guidance of any kind. This probably only means something to the test's author and that's all.

I will say, though, I definitely hear high pitched tones for speakers 7 and 8. The frequency sounds like 5 kHz.
