OTA 1.7.1 Stuck, anyone else have issue updating?

For those that have had success with this, could someone please summarize exactly what you said to the dealer and which of the parts required to conduct the dealer you had to give to them?
As noted above, loaned them the cables/adapters and printed out the TSB along with a printout of a post in this thread by somebody who did this for another member which outlines pretty much how to do it. Even with all that however, the mechanic still had to call Ford for assistance. The Service Writers don't have a clue as to what this is or what/why it is needed. I think rather than admitting that they just spew some BS about doing it.

@benk016 , does this update require you to have that fancy mongoose cable and 12v power supply? Or can I do this with any old windows laptop and a FDRS trial subscription?

It still requires the full FDRS setup. FDRS starts the process and prepares the car through the OBD port with the mongoose or whichever adapter you use.

You could get away with not using the power supply for this though because its a quick process. And then the subsequent APIM update is done with USB which actually wants the car fully on to apply.

If you wanted to do the other updates as well you'd need a power supply for sure.

Those other updates, are those the ones that come OTA if you wait post 1.7.1 or something different?
They should all be coming OTA in the next month or two. As long as you get unstuck.

I sent the TSB to my dealer last week. He said his techs read over it and are ready to apply it to my car. I dropped it off yesterday to be applied today. He sent me a message this morning saying the techs discovered they need certain adapters to apply the update and Ford doesn't have them. I said I thought they read over the TSB last week the pictures clearly show what you need. he said a "A" and a "B" tech both read them over. Yea sure. Now I have to wait for them to get the adaptors and take the car back in. Ugh!

I had knee surgery last Monday, and have been out of commission for the past week. Of course the fix would come out exactly when I can't drive!

As soon as the Doc gives me the OK to drive, I will stop by the dealership to see if they have done this update on any other cars and if they have all the connectors and cables.

If not I will buy them and leave them in the car, as well.

I have printed out the TSB and your notes and will give everything to them when I can drop off the car. I can't believe we are having to lead the techs through this with baby steps, but if it is what has to be done, so be it.

Your notes were a great idea!

Thanks. The steps in doing the TSB are from another member of the forum and I copied what he wrote as I felt it was very clear. Apparently not as the mechanic still had to call Ford for assistance in performing the TSB. I'm just glad he finally got it to install using my equipment.

Agreed! But I wanted the TSB done without any excuses and the entire setup cost me about $28-29 from Amazon which I was willing to pay. I am going to loan the adapters cables to another member on this forum and after that I may keep them or return them. You never know when this procedure may have to be repeated. But getting back to your point, yes Ford should pay us but that is like a farts chance in a windstorm!
