How Long Before People Accept The Mach-E As A Mustang?

Probe didn’t survive because it was redundant to have two ”sporty” coupes, a genre that never sets sales records. Just think, we could have known the Focus RS as the “Mustang GT” and been deprived of the fabulous s550. No…don‘t think that because it’s really depressing. ?

MME was never intended to replace Mustang so that replacement hasn’t been a threat so far. Long ago Ford decided to get down to only one actual car product.

Probe wasn’t redundant. It just sucked compared to the Mustang.

It was only a few years ago that Ford got rid of all its other cars.

This broke too many rules. Electric was just one of them. AWD, 4 doors and SUV.

This car appeals to too many “former Prius drivers.” And Mustang enthusiasts and Prius drivers are gonna have a hard time agreeing on what makes a car a car.

I wonder how many former Prius drivers actually care to own the MME... there the mach-e is definitely middle of the pack when it comes to miles per KWh efficiency. I feel like they're already out there buying Teslas and more efficient EVs.

I'm more concerned that so many people are complaining and begging for their mustang to ride like a luxury SUV. NO! No No...

It should ride and drive like sports SUV not a Lincoln, Lexus or Cadillac. Go buy something else gramps.

There are a TON of former Prius drivers here. Especially for the non-GT Mach Es.

Same goes for people who used to drive a Bolt, Volt, or Leaf.

Then lots of former v8 or performance car drivers here now with GT and GTPEs.

This car has a lot of mass appeal.

And yes, plenty of grandpas here that would prefer if it rode better!

Most other drivers except Prius owners. I stereotype Prius owners with being so obsessed with efficiency and driving below the speed limit that they would just overlook the MME altogether and just buy a more efficient EV or some boring hybrid.

Tesla drivers up here drive eerily similar to prius drivers. Always 5 below the speed limit and always accelerating onto the interstate at 45 mph ?

and through it all the format, two door coupe/convertible, was so consistent that even those two “non-car people” mentioned a few posts above have an immediate expectation of what the name means. That’s the typical reaction of the “not a Mustang“ crowd, not so much that it’s electric.

So it's the number of doors that makes it a Mustang? Powertrain doesn't matter? The fact that it might be a sedan, fastback, hatchback or convertible is immaterial. It's just the number of doors. Doesn't even matter the platform it is based on. 2 doors. That's it.

I’ve always had a practical and utilitarian streak, and I loved that Jetta (a dieselgate one), because it was the best performing of the list.

I never imagined I’d own anything with “Mustang” in the marque, and this is, hands down, the best car I’ve owned.

It combines the practical and efficient streak with the driving dynamics I could never bring myself to splurge on/justify the extra cost. Now the utilitarian and the fun have met, and it’s GREAT.

I may not be a true car guy, but boy, I’ve appreciated that Ford has made a vehicle that makes true car geeks want to talk to me (and so far, all have loved it, including classic Mustang owners. In eastern Washington, that’s saying something.)

My Bolt EV that I had certainly made me feel that way at first.

And then I got over it.

I'm no longer in high school. I don't have a mullet. I don't need to prove to every other driver that I have a fast car. I don't feel like I have to be in a drag race at every stop light. The car I have doesn't have to bolster my manhood. And no, I'm not having a midlife crisis by getting this car. This is all about the range it offers and not being from a company called Tesla. Every time we go to Hawaii, we rent a convertible Ford Mustang, so isn't like I'm not familiar with what a challenge they can be to be a daily driver.

One of the best looking Mustangs out there was the one-off 1966 station wagon built by Intermeccanica. No one has hassled me about the MME, but if they did I'd just say it's the modern electric version of it.

I've run into too many auto enthusiasts who drive a sporty car because it is a penis extension for them and they can't understand how some people can stand to drive "regular cars". It's all about status for them. And that has unfortunately tainted my view of otherwise well meaning people who like sports cars. Sadly, some of those people are hung up on the name of the car and how many doors it has.

I fully intend to enjoy this car, if it ever friggin' gets here. And, yes, have some fun. With a 48 mile commute on a beautiful stretch of highway that lends itself to 75+ speeds, I'm sure I'll have plenty of opportunity for some spirited sprints.

I typically drive my Prius faster than I drive my Mustang. The highway speed limit is 75. I usually go 80-90 in my Prius and 75-80 in my Mustang. Around town I do the speed limit in both.

Hypermiling is a whole other, very minor, mostly extinct, breed of hybrid drivers.
