When all new Fords are electric
Not even then.

This broke too many rules. Electric was just one of them. AWD, 4 doors and SUV.

This car appeals to too many “former Prius drivers.” And Mustang enthusiasts and Prius drivers are gonna have a hard time agreeing on what makes a car a car.

I hope to add a CR1 Mustang Mach-E to my driveway, right next to my 2017 Mustang Ecoboost (which some also say is "not a mustang"), but will need to wait for MY23 because they are all sold out!

I guess some people are emotionally invested in the name. Being a Ponycar guy but not a Ford or Mustang guy (my Ponycars were mostly of a different brand), I originally thought that Ford should keep the name on a Ponycar. That didn’t stop me from wanting one. Logically, Ford owns the right to the name where it applies to passenger cars, so they can do what they like with it. So I switched to the camp of “I don’t care what they call it.” ??

I don’t care if someone likes or dislikes the name on the car. It’s fun to drive and comfortable. It does an incredible job as a commuter. ??
100% agree. It’s a mustang because Ford said so. Folks need to just build a damn bridge!

I also own a 2018 EcoBoost Convertible and used the Mustang Club of America x-plan discount to buy my 21 MME. Looking through the latest monthly MCA magazine, they have started allowing MME’s at the shows and will soon have a dedicated class for them at all sanctioned shows. So, it appears to me that we are heading there even with even the old “die-hards”. It’s just a matter of time…. months, not years!

I think the more dyed-in-the-wool old schoolers who get see the car up close, the better. We are always afraid of the new, the different, it's human nature for some.

I think Mark Twain said "I like progress, it's change I don't like"...

My backyard neighbour has like a '57 Bel Air or something (I think he's the original owner :) ) - I can't wait to show him and see what he thinks

My $0.02,, not worth a shiny penny…
I, being the owner of of V6 (’Stang purists hate them, maybe only slightly less than eco-boost versions) feel strongly I can comment on this topic having endured some vitriol over the last 11 years of Mustang ownership from some uninformed haters.

I’m sure someone else has said it here before—my take is Ford Corporate was overly concerned with initial public reception and possible lackluster sales figures, so when marketing folks said “Hey lets gussy this up with some Mustang emblems and use the same tail lights and somewhat same hood lines - then hopefully this will sell well“ they bit down hard.
Fast forward to now, well we see all their worry is/was for naught.

I’d bet (with someone else’s money ??) that whenever they can catch up with production and come up with a few easily done design changes for the MachE v2.0, probably 2025, that they drop the ponies, come up with a hopefully superb E⚡designated emblem and embrace the MachE name solely.
Yes, I said gussy. ✌

I find this a sad misunderstanding of the broad range of both Prius drivers and Mustang enthusiasts.

I am both a Prius owner and a Mustang (and pony car) owner and enthusiast. I know many Prius enthusiasts and owners who also love all sorts of other vehicles, including pony cars, pickup trucks, Jeeps, and all sorts of other vehicles.

It's easy to find automotive technology awesome without being a gate keeper.

I like mustangs and I own a toaster oven.

I’m just not enthusiastic about my toaster oven.

And if I ran into a toaster oven enthusiast, not sure we would get excited about the same things.

And that’s ok.

I love my GTPE. I also love my 69 Mach 1. But I’m ok that only one is unanimously agreed to be a real mustang.

It seems like we all have that middle school version of ourselves still in our heads begging for everyone’s approval.

I have a Mustang, can I sit with the cool kids now?

It’s like we are learning the difference between being in “a band” and being in “the band” all over again. ?

They Should’ve called it the Jolt Horse And had a graphic with a galloping horse with an electrical cable right up his rectum.

Who gives a crap what they call it?

I might research getting a badge made with a horse electrified by the posterior for my fender

I learned to drive in a Mustang in the 70's, in later life I owned a custom built, Saleen 302 Mustang. I am considered a "Mustang guy" by my friends. I have zero problem with MME being a Mustang. Can't wait for delivery in about 6 weeks.

I’ve always been a “pony car guy” and loved Mustangs, Camaros, and Challengers. The Mach E is not a pony car. 4 doors crossover/SUV just isn’t one. I like the car but it needs to be renamed “Thunderbolt” or something else rich in Ford history.

Hey, that's me! I've had a Prius and the appeal was the same - driving 20-24k miles/year, fuel costs matter. There was also a BMW X3 in between, because the Prius was joyless and I was financially secure enough to throw premium at something fun to drive (premium, sure, but now maintenance was painful). Now I have both fun and efficient.

As for the Mustang debate, I usually tell people I have a Mach E because fewer people give me the "it's not a Mustang" reply that makes me roll my eyes. My usual response to that is "Ford says it is" and point out that it's faster than the vast majority of the Mustangs on the road. I didn't buy it because I wanted a Mustang, I bought it because I wanted a solid EV and I just couldn't stand the looks of the Tesla. I don't care what some Mustang purist thinks, I'd rather be in my MME than their Mustang for my daily drive and that's all that counts to me.

Truth is, the purists are going to be a pain for a while, but sooner than they realize, there won't be new ICE Mustangs. And they'll keep buying and maintaining used ones until they croak. But before that happens, about 5 years after ICE sales stop (and they will), gas stations will start closing. Eventually, there will only be a few gas stations left to cater to classic car enthusiasts and I shudder to think what gas prices will be like at that point.

lol nah. I couldn't care less what they think. I love my car. I just chalk it up to ignorance, jealousy or both.
My guess is that the problem is not the name, but that it’s electric. They’d probably flip you off if you had a Tesla, too.
