So it's the number of doors that makes it a Mustang? Powertrain doesn't matter? The fact that it might be a sedan, fastback, hatchback or convertible is immaterial. It's just the number of doors. Doesn't even matter the platform it is based on. 2 doors. That's it.
You cherrypicked "two door" and completely missed what I said. Not number of doors but style & format. "Coupe" (hatchback, notchback, fastback, whatever)/convertible with either sporty capability or the image that it might be sporty. Two doors are required for the "coupe" format, despite German brand marketing ;). That's the one consistent thing in the car's history and in the litany of evolution you keep repeating. That's the reason non-car people look at the MME and say "it's very pretty and really cool, but not sure that's a Mustang".

The only people who say it's powertrain are usually v8 types that have a hard time with the fact an Ecoboost s550 is better in every way than their older v8 car?. Platform obviously doesn't matter since Mustang has rarely (never?) had it's own platform anyway.

Ultimately it's all irrelevant 'cause it's just a car. In my legion of parking lot conversations we always end up in the same place...whatever they try call it, it's certainly a very cool electric station wagon. ?

I think I'll give Farley & Ford credit for a genius marketing move. Perhaps when the edict came down to re-brand their new EV crossover as a Mustang they said "you know, they'll argue about this for YEARS. We can't buy that kind of publicity!" ?

This reminds me of Harley-Davidson and their LiveWire electric motorcycle line. No way it's going to be considered a Harley.

Well, they could have called it the Falcon. That was the revolutionary compact car that John McNamara (CEO of the day) brought in to save Ford in 1960. And the Falcon was the underpinnings of the Mustang. Just pull one of those tri-bar horn rings and read the backside. It says Falcon. Even my Falcon draws some ire at the MStang shows. I always get a trophy cause I’m the only one. Now, which one will I take to a MStang show next. You bet it will be red.

And when I’m ask “isn’t that the mother of the Mustang” I reply politely “well it is but we are still looking for the father” ?

I typically drive my Prius faster than I drive my Mustang. The highway speed limit is 75. I usually go 80-90 in my Prius and 75-80 in my Mustang. Around town I do the speed limit in both.

Hypermiling is a whole other, very minor, mostly extinct, breed of hybrid drivers.
Yeah, I could never get the hang of hypermilng. I’m just happy to get more than 40MPG in the 2005 Prius I’m currently driving until the MME gets here.

There was no edict to rebrand the design they came up with as a Mustang. The edict was to take the existing design, throw it out, and come up with a design that was evocative of the Mustang in terms of performance and styling.

But yeah, the decision to actually call that resulting better design a Mustang was a genius marketing idea. Given the number of butthurt people who can’t stop whining about the name, and the evolution of the Mustang brand, they clearly succeeded. In 10 or 15 years no one will care, just as they eventually didn’t care that the Mustang II, or the Fox body Mustangs, weren’t “real” Mustangs when they came out.

I've been driving my Mach-E a lot lately and it's just in no way the same or even similar to the 4 Mustangs I've had. It's just completely different. I do like it, but if given an ultimatum that I could only have one vehicle, it'd be my 23 year old truck. If given two, I'd add the Shelby. The MME would be a ways down the list.

Does that mean you don't consider 4&6 cylinder versions Mustangs either??
What makes you say that. I have been very clear about why the Mach-E is not a mustang, and it has absolutely nothing to do with power plant.
I was one of those "purists" who hated the Cayenne when it first came out. I mean, I really hated that Porsche was making an SUV. (I also said I'd never drive a car that isn't a stick...silly young Doug...) Then I had one as a loaner for a couple of weeks when my Boxster engine grenaded. Didn't take long for me to be converted...even if it took me a while to admit I was converted.

So to respond to the OP's original question...how long will it take to get a lot of these "purists" behind the wheel of these fantastic beasts? I'm going to say a few years. There will always be a stubborn few who can't "let go" (just as there are still Porsche folk who despise anything with a water cooled engine), but I think, in time, they'll come around.
again, Porsche didn’t call the Cayenne a 911, or a GT3. They created a new car, with a new name. Or are you arguing that the cayenne should never have been a Porsche? Because I have no issue with the Mach-E being a Ford, it’s just not a Mustang. Just like I don’t have an issue with Porsche building the Cayenne, or the Taycan, but I would have a big problem with them being called 911.

Are you implying that this is an actual photo of the electric corvette? Because if you are, I call shenanigans.
No no, it's completely shenanigans but just thought it was a cool concept.
