I remember a bunch of overheating. It's the battery design. Here are more details.

MME Battery Design
That’s not overheating, that’s the vehicle intervening (by limiting power, limiting DCFC charging speeds) to make sure no overheating occurs.

Overheating would be gunning it then having the vehicle shutdown because everything got too hot, or worse start smoking, or much worse, igniting.

I think Ford is being silent for their own reasonings to keep things under wrap until the Engineers find a patch or fix....
If they come out and said, NO we can't deliver past the 5 seconds on the GT/PE, would you be more pissed or be OK because they gave you an answer.
Their logic is to keep it quiet until there is something solid/concrete to mention....

Have faith, it will be address soon enough.....I don't see any one of the owners here saying they are selling their GT/PE because of the 5 sec limitation? Did I miss something?
If they’re never going to fix it, yes, I would rather know now instead of being stuck in limbo and forced to speculate.

And if they’re working on it…… freakin say so! They’ve told us TONS of “coming soon” updates well before they happen.

And yes, multiple people have already sold their GTs because of the limit and have been very vocal.

And even more have said “I won’t buy one until they fix it.”

I can concur with all you have said…..
However, the question to you is, Are you selling your GT or waiting for Ford to do something soon?

For me, my intention was to try the GTPE for 1 yr or max 2 yrs regardless if Ford addresses the 5 second limitation

100%. And you know I’m in the we’ll trade the 4X in the minute a fix is implemented camp. Pretty sure my wife would do it, 99% sure….?

I read that "article" yet I see zero actual proof of overheating just someone claiming the overheating is happening and is because of the battery design and also mentioning the Bolt of which I am also unaware of it having overheating issues (catastrophic anode breaching maybe) but I don't believe it's performance is crippled due to overheating, it just wasn't designed to be a performance EV on about ten different levels.

Don't get me wrong, using the same designed LG pouch cells was stupidity but it's likely a stupidity that was set in motion well before Bolts started burning.

They are giving all the ICE Mustang people who hate the Mach-E even more fuel for their fire.
Except the GTPE will still blow away most ICE Mustangs at any stop light.

Most of us on this forum are not drag racing, probably 99% of us, so a stop light smash is the most we’ll be doing for some fun, and the GTPE is great at that.

But that’s not an excuse, Ford really still needs to fix the 5 second rule, if only so we don’t get these threads anymore lol but more so because this IS the top performing Mach E and it needs to act like it. I really am hoping Ford does something about it, and the way Farley talks about software gives me a tiny bit of hope.

And yes, it’s fun being slightly smitten ? every day driving this car is fun.

I guess I look at this from a numbers stand point. The F-150 lightning platinum starts at $90k. That's a solid $20k over Mach E GT price. Then there's the F-150 sales numbers. The truck has been Ford's biggest seller forever, so they know there's a huge market for it. Yes, bigger than for the Mach E.

I myself have a Mach E 4x and it moves quite well, both from a get and at highway speeds. I can't imagine the neck snapping the GT gives from a light, and let's be honest, that's where the vast majority of us do this, not at the track.

I'm not hating on anyone that feels they've been duped. I just think you all have an amazing vehicle that some of us wish we had.

Ford will probably make changes in future models, that to is a numbers thing. If sales suffer, changes move faster. That's the nature of the business, keep the customer wanting more, and better. Now go out and snap your neck at a light, and lay waste to an ice vehicle, you'll feel better...I promise.??

Cheers!

I’m waiting.

I love my GTPE, but I’m would really love if they fixed the limit.

Basically I keep every car until something comes out that I want more. Fixing the limit (or not) will definitely have impact on how long I keep it.

If something else comes out that’s faster, comfortable and good looking…… for sale!

It’s a good thing for Ford that most EVs are butt ugly!

I just went through the same thought process. What other EV is as fast as the Mach E GT and looks as good in its price range? Definitely not the EV6 GT, as much as I like Kia products! And the i4 has that butt ugly new BMW design language. Can’t believe they even ruined the new M3…
So I’ll likely be holding onto my GTPE until I can afford a Taycan, I guess.

Don't forget that you can order the Pro with the same battery/more power if you have a fleet. So the 18yo landscaper might blow your doors off at the light. It almost makes me wonder if companies are going have a harder time insuring these Lightnings. I'm shocked there isn't a "valet mode" with reduced power.

Well, it’s not quite that bad.

It almost hits the 0-60 that was advertised.

It also handles and brakes better than I expected for a 5000 lb vehicle.

That 1/4 mile though…….

That’s the funny thing I’ve noticed about the GT performance reviews. Everyone says it handles great, brakes are amazing and accelerates like a rocket, it’s really that quarter-mile time that has people very upset.

I couldn’t care less about quarter mile other than to be able to say it can do a fast-quarter mile, but it’s the throttling at non-optimal temperatures and charge state that is concerning, as you’ve mentioned.

I stopped by my sister's work place because they got their mannequin lightning in. Not a fan of pick-ups in general, and it truly looks just like a regular F-150. It's very quick, but my Mach E sitting next to it makes it look bad.??
