Should I have my dealer complete 21P22 on my 2021 Job 2?

I have a 2021 Job 2 Premium AWD Ext. built in the middle of August. I have a great dealer that I have been buying and maintaining Ford vehicles through for nearly 10 years now (in fact I have sold 4 Mach-Es to friends in our area through the dealer lol). I have also been doing tons of reading on this subject in this forum. So thanks to this forum I understand all of the details of what to expect with this request of the dealer.

So I know this may seem like a duplicate post, but what I want to ask our fun (and sometimes feisty) community is should I have the dealer go through the effort…. Or should I wait and hope for an OTA that delivers the updates one day???

I’d see how many they’ve done already and then make the decision

If your job 2 doesn’t already have the software updates, I don’t know why you WOULDN’T get them to upgrade it. I think my car was the first MME my dealer did and it went fine (took 2x longer than they quoted).
Anyway, the charging curve is really nice upgrade.

Yes, definitely. It resolves a lot of lame bugs and 21P22 won't be out forever, it ends this year, so I'd try and get it over with and if you're friendly with them, see if they'll just do all available updates in FDRS for you.

Thank you all for the advice! I had my dealer complete the 21P22 update, it took them a couple of hours, with no serious issues. I tested today a session from 68% to 88% SOC and got ~90 kW from 68% - 80% SOC and then from 80% - 88% SOC it held steady at 41kW. Outside temp was around 87°. Could not be happier!

I have the same question. I don't do DC charging, so I don't care about that. I've heard sometimes updates ruin the brakes and/or one-pedal driving, and I would hate that.

I'm glad it went well for you. I would like to hear a few other success (or fail) stories before I try it.

Post 21P22 so far I have noticed the following:
- Although the EV driving history still shows in the car, the GOM was for sure reset. For the past 6 weeks or so (due to the warm weather in North Texas) our 80% SOC over night charge range was showing around 245. This is because we don’t do a lot of highway driving in our normal work commute (just on road trips). After the update GOM showed 224 at 80% SOC.
- I use one pedal driving, my husband does not. He stated he does not really feel a difference in breaking behavior. I have noticed with 1 pedal driving if you are on a flat road the last foot is smoother than before. However I have noticed if coming to a stop uphill, the car does roll back an inch or two before the breaks fully engage to stop the car. It is almost like the smoothed out the brake application for the last foot, and if on a steep enough up hill the car can roll back a bit after stopping before the brake is fully applied. It is noticeable but not concerning because you can hear the brakes being applied.

Thank you for the additional information.

FWIW, without the update my car stops perfectly on one pedal. I don't see how they could possibly make that last foot any smoother. It's one of very few driving skills at which the car is better than I.

I'm in the same boat and don't have any significant issues, so see no reason to chase the latest software version.

On longer trips, the updated charging curve has really helped us in areas where chargers are few and far between. Other than that, I really haven't noticed much, if any, difference since I had mine updated.

Ours was pretty good as well pre 21P22 the only thing we noticed is in that last foot it felt like the breaks clapped a little to quickly while the car was almost stopped resulting in the last 6 inches or so to be a little more sudden and then the vehicle would rock back and forth a bit on the break pads. It was not by any means ā€œroughā€ so the difference pre and post update is very subtle.

I'm in the DFW area and am approaching the 10,000 mile service. I plan to get the 21P22 update while it's in for the tire rotation. Do you mind telling me which dealer did your update?

Sure, I have been purchasing and servicing our Fords at Bill Utter Ford in Corinth for 8 years now. I will DM you my service advisor’s name so it is not on a public forum. He takes good care of our cars, he is a good ol’ boy and when we first got our CMax Energi (and my parents got their Fusion Energi) he did not know much about electrified Fords, however he always put in the effort to make sure our service is good and our cars are taken care of. They are also an an EV certified dealer.

So, I have a Job 2 car as well and do not see any recalls in my FordPass, or the main Ford website. Then this morning I saw a reference to Ford ETIS and apparently I also have 21P22 along with others listed.

Did you have it shown as a recall somewhere else, or needed to convince your dealer to apply it?

Interestingly enough, the BlueCruise maps are still listed, but that is the only OTA update I've ever received, unless there was something missing.
