The last few times I have opened my manual lift gate, I have noticed a rattling noise. Then today when closing it, I could see the tail lights are loose on both sides. It appears maybe some screws have come off toward the center of the lift gate. Anyone else seen this?

I can grab both tail lights and move them a bit.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

This happened to us too. They failed to put any kind of thread lock on these at the factory. We noticed right around the 10,000 mile service so we had the dealer fix them. The fix was relatively simple, but I don't think they put thread lock on them that time so they're working loose again. When I have time I'll go in myself and fix them.

Not good because that lets water in too and can cause false liftgate activation.

Mine is loose now as well. Dealer wasn't sure if something was broken so he ordered a new one. Anybody have any step by step to take the hatch panels off so I can lock tight the nut? Don't want to break and tabs .

I've gone around in circles with the dealer and Ford on this. They can't diagnose the issue if I've tightened the bolts myself, and if the bolts are loose, they'll tighten them. Wow. Anyone know if there's a difference in the taillights on newer cars?

Mine are loose again. I'll wrap the bolts with a thread lock tape this time. The liquid is a pain to deal with when the hatch is open.

Same with mine here in the uk removed all the trim and found no nuts fitted. Used an extending magnet and managed to get the two missing nuts and sort it myself.

I am having the same problem at 34 months and 49k miles. IW was told by dealer (Towne Ford in Redwood City CA) that bumper-to-bumper warranty had expired and it was not covered. Service consultant offered to open a "case" on this for a Ford-paid repair but today said via email that she had been too busy.

I am frustrated that Ford will not take care of this, and that I will have to spend good money t o have a body shop fix what Ford failed to do correctly at the factory.

Can anyone tell me how I can open my own "case" with Ford. We are a 3 Ford family, but can always switch to Toyota

Or I can wait for taillight to fall out and I get rear-ended.. Is it not a safety issue if your light fall off?

Same here, but the gel loc-tite works decent.

I don’t live far from Towne (they’re my servicing dealer too). If you need to get the nuts tightened, you can come by my place this weekend. ??
