My sales guy at Mullinax said they are very aware of the price protection and the way it will typically work is pay the sticker price at purchase and then the rebate will be sent to us within 30-45 days. He said they have been honoring original price at time of purchase on some orders but it’s a case by case basis, typically people not using X-Plan. He said since I’m using X-Plan, I’ll likely have to wait the 30 days for the refund.

I honestly have no idea. That’s a good question. Between that and not being 100% sure X-Plan or the park assist discount will fuck up the refund, I’m tempted to forgo the X-plan discount. The dealer has no dealer fees anyways.

The other consideration is the doc fee is limited to $100 with x-plan vs the max allowed $324 (in Illinois). Our sales tax in Chicago is 9.25% and all these items are taxed. So the small details start adding up and pretty quickly you’re talking about $1,500.

Can’t speak for others but I would. The tax is calculated on the total price with all options. Hence, I don’t want a rebate check after the sale. I’m already going to pay almost $6.3K in taxes. Don’t want to pay more.

I don't think there are dealer fees or doc fees with this dealer. So NOT like Florida... lol.

However they markup Mach-Es $5K on abandoned orders and $15K to $20K on Broncos. That's how they make up for the no fees.

I’m hoping to trade in my 21 and in FL you only pay sales tax on the trade difference. I should basically get a refund. This is different based on state and for @GreaseMonkey it may not apply because I know IL changed this law a few years back but don’t remember the details.

FL sales tax is 6% plus county tax, but county tax is only on the first $5k. For me it’s an extra $50.

@OriginalGoof who is your salesperson? they seem to be better informed.

You are spot on. A few years back, Illinois limited deductibility of state sales tax on trade-ins to $10,000. But even before then, I never traded a car in. I’ve always been able to sell it retail and make a few extra bucks.

Haha. The funny thing is I am a salesperson and I absolutely hate selling stuff on my own. Maybe because I do it every day.

Idk if the recall will change anything but I’ve had other local Ford dealers offer me $56-57k to buy my 21 premium AWD SR outright. If I can get my dealer to get close to that with the tax savings I’ll be coming out ahead. I bought the 21 with the intention of keeping it, but it makes more sense to take the 22 at this point.

I feel like it’s theft to make you pay sales tax on something you already paid tax on, but you live in Chicago so you should be used to the state and city stealing as much as they can. (I lived in the city from 2000-2016, so I’m speaking from experience.)

My sales guy is Christian. He can be slow to respond at times but he’s been a pretty good guy so far.

Christian is also my salesguy. He seems like a honest accommodating type. I think he started last fall as everything was new to him when I ordered back on Oct 1st. Would recommend him for sure.

My dealer pushed me to show up in person, order at the store and sign a sales agreement detailing out the door pricing, etc. I was very tempted to do everything online because that’s what the cool kids do these days. I’m thrilled to have done it the old fashioned way. Total dumb luck.

I just want you to know that your dealership is special, and this had nothing to do with whether you ordered online or not. I ordered online; my dealership sent me an email as if I had submitted a general inquiry on any random vehicle, and when I told them what it was, they said they'd process it. A few days later I poked them about the status of it, since the website indicated that the order had not yet been accepted by the dealer. They then told me I had to come in to show ID and sign paperwork. They photocopied my driver's license, but there was no paperwork. I didn't know about the price shenanigans at the time, so I sat for about two months before I had read enough on this forum and asked for a written guarantee on no ADM, and a signed price agreement. Wishy-washy emails finally led me to just show up at the dealership, where they said the emails would count as no ADM guarantee, but no price agreement could be signed until the VIN was assigned. Of course, the moment I got the VIN from Ford I contacted them, but they said they didn't have the VIN yet and to wait 2-3 weeks - and having seen how this process has gone, I think that part was honest. I also could see that they had no way of identifying which order was mine, without the configuration and/or the VIN. It's incredibly disorganized. Honestly it makes me wonder if the reason they refused to do the purchase agreement prior to the VIN was because they'd have to admit that they had no idea what I had ordered.

Long story short, online ordering with Ford really isn't like online ordering with Tesla. Maybe it'll get there some day, but it seems to only save you a few minutes at your dealership, at most. The big benefit really has to do with being able to monitor the build status without relying on details from the dealer.

I feel like we ought to collaborate on writing an ordering guide for future customers to educate them on the process and how to navigate it. 2023 order book will open soon, in August I think.

Do you know if any exist already? I’ve seen random advice, but nothing complete.
