Got a text today from my sales rep saying this:

Order # 4482. VIN 3FMTK4SE2NMA40636. "SENT TO PLANT" 7/18/22

He told me this means that my MME is about to be built. Is this true? What can I expect otherwise?

You car is "in production", but until the "In Production" tick mark on the timeline has a date, it's not actually being built. You can check the order status here.

From my past experience tracking orders, my guess is you're about 3-4 months aware from getting your car.

Yes, if you accept that "about to be built" means 3-4 weeks. You may get a "build date" that is about a month out. Ford scheduling occurs on Thursday. The 7/21/22 scheduling day is expected to assign MME orders to the four weeks of September. It's about a week before the actual build date that you would be able to access your window sticker. Your MME order is highly likely to begin assembly the week following the window sticker availability. Building the MME takes about 1 week, then it's 4-6 weeks of transit if there are no delays (of which there are many potential causes). Ford will tell you very little.
I got a "sent to plant" response from Ford chat, but dealer rep said "No VIN/no build date" after checking VVR last week (i.e. week 31 of my wait to be scheduled).

Your dealer has access to Vehicle Visibility system. Sent to plant means the vehicle has started production. If I remember correctly, it took about 5 days to change to "Produced" status.

The Ford.com owner account progress bar lags behind the Vehicle Visibility.

I think that means they sent it to the greenhouse for planting.

You need to keep your sense of humor when dealing with MME schedules.

I was in build status for a few days (4) then in waiting for shipment for 3 days and today they say it's on the way. Via rail and expected in VA first week of Sept.
I'm excited but not holding my breath on that date.

I don't think this is my vehicle. I certainly did not order rapid red. I ordered grey metallic extended range AWD. Did my sales rep give me the wrong info?

You can expect it to be "In Production" for 6 weeks. Then, it will be moved to a lot, where it will be the first vehicle in - and the last out. You should get delivery by Thanksgiving... ? [This is exactly the timeline I had]

I checked Ford chat every couple of weeks and Ford.com nearly every day. Chat status changed to "sent to plant" on or about 14 July, no VIN. Today, 21 July 22, Ford.com said my "build date" would be 19 September 2022. (That would be 226 days between "order" and "scheduled" dates.) Chat told me the same build date and gave me VIN and tracking link. Haven't heard from dealer so I'll have to seek them out. This would be 60 days between "Scheduled" and "begin assembly/build", 286 days between "order" and "build dates", and, if delivered 1 November 2022..... 329 days (47 weeks, ~11 months) between "order" and "delivery" dates.
