I suspect for the GTs, it's not a matter of if, but when for these to fail. Mine failed last evening just driving about 50 in some traffic, flat road, not too hot and not doing WOT. This has to be costing Ford a lot considering the volume and cost of labor.

Oh I agree, I bet every single GT HVBJB will fail eventually.

It would cost them less in terms of rental car and incidentals for owners -- much less the erosion of goodwill and any loyalty to Ford -- if they would just organize an orderly program to replace GT junction boxes proactively.

They're going to have to do it anyhow, IMHO. This isn't a rare problem....

I wonder if there are any GTs out there in the wild with over 30k miles that have NOT failed? I have said it before, but the solution here is for @Ford Motor Company to replace the HVBJB in every GT when they come in for their regular 10k or 20k service

I think Todd has the mileage record I've seen -- he also did a ton of highway and DCFC driving, which has to pump more amperage through the junction box than other driving activities.

And the bad publicity and say they have to recall an important part that could brick your car.. they just don’t want to admit it with that full recall of that part.

Publicity is irrelevant to them, they still are selling every single EV they can make, and will do so even after raising prices thousands of dollars.

Ford is trying to save money on warranty claims -- they spend a ton of money compared with other automakers on recalls, and anything they can do to spread out the warranty cost they know they will incur helps with their bottom line.

They couldn't care less about anything else, so long as regulators are satisfied.

They have ordered the new HVBJB, but have been given an ETA of two weeks by Ford.

The dealer looked into it and think the part used last time was the old part. They say Ford tells them the new part became available a couple weeks after my last repair so they do not believe it is the new updated part number.

That's a relief to all of us but you to know that you're not the first case of the new HVBJB design failing....

I agree that they are doing this to save money on warranty claims , but I do believe they care about bad press also . All big company's do

It's actually a relief to me as well. At least this time I know I will be getting the updated part and then it is back to being a HVBJB tester as you have said in the past.... Challenge accepted....

I will just say that a large part of the unpleasant experience was also that the failure I had was just before the July 4th weekend, and of course things will take longer around holiday weekends. I certainly hope you don't have a similar experience on the Labor Day weekend -- but I'd be prepared with what dealers are nearby if you need them.

Absolutely. Same reason they still haven't rolled out the recall OTA to everyone. Trying to keep the stream of failed Mach-Es as slow as they can go without anyone but us noticing.

Thanks. I have a feeling the Ford dealers where I am going are not up to speed on this car. But I could be wrong. I am not going to worry about it though. If I were worried, we would take my wife's car. I just love driving my car too much to leave it home.

With SVS you have a good chance of being able to drive your car without problems, just slower.

My car was the first ever to have these new codes / SVS, so none of us knew what the heck it meant and how concerned I had to be. I also had young kids and Blippi on board, so there were those considerations that folks with other passenger manifests and entertainment choices probably wouldn't have.

I sadly wonder how much of this is a time and math problem.

How long will it take these all to fail....maybe it happens after warranties expire? Is this fully covered under the 8yr?

It's fully covered under their EV powertrain warranty which is ridiculously long -- even @DevSecOps would not be able to escape a junction box failure for 8 years / 80k!

I think there is like no way most GTs won't have damaged contactors at some point.

I believe that all GTs have damaged contactors. The question is to what degree and when they will fail completely. Not only has Ford put parts not fit for use in these cars, but they also added software to pace the failures and give them time to avoid the repairs that are needed. This type of solution can only be justified by accountants and lawyers. And, I apologize to accountants and lawyers.
