Several of you have complained about unwanted behaviors (ie vehicle rolling back 2 feet) and most of us though you were just fat-footing it. Turns out you probably just had this new “updated” brake mapping.

In an effort to make the vehicle feel more like a fusion than a mustang ford decided to smooth out the brakes. The vehicle now released all brakes slightly before the motor has enough power to move the vehicle.
In 1PD If you rest your foot on the brake pedal a little too much you’ll release the brakes and your car will start to free roll a bit. But this isn’t the biggest issue.
If you park on a steep incline, you have now lost any fine control when going in the direction of the slope because the vehicle no longer drags the brakes.
I have a steep driveway and I used to be able to inch backwards in reverse with 1PD which was great. Now the brakes fully release and the vehicle will roll backwards about 2-3ft before regen can get it stopped again. It rolls back at about half the speed compared to neutral.
It makes zero sense as to why ford would change this behavior on inclines. It worked fantastically before. I assume it made the vehicle more jerky when going against the slope and they changed it without thinking what would happen when going with the slope.

Here’s a video (driveway is a lot steeper than it appears on video) that shows what I’m describing. In 1PD the accelerator is pressed very slowly until the brakes release and then immediately released. The vehicle half-free rolls untill it hits the flat sidewalk and 1PD stops the vehicle. This bug was introduced in the “brake feel” update.
It only happens on the initial brake release. If I were to keep reversing the vehicle would behave normally and not free roll. The bug will reappear any time you change “gear” (IE. Forward/park to reverse). My educated guess is that the incline sensor is no longer referenced after changing “gears”, but registers after the initial brake release. @Ford Motor Company any plans to fix this newly introduced bug?

Yeah.... I feel your pain... I have a tight turn to get into my garage and normally have to K turn to get in... since the latest update, I've come close to hitting either the concrete pillar of the garage or the stone retaining wall in front of me because the breaking isn't as instant

My car always did this since March I started visiting a dog park daily, except I exited forward. When I stop the car before street, front wheels are on flat sidewalk, and car would roll backwards uphill.
I don't think I had any update back then (only BC map update).

I think the brake update came out a while back but idk which cars were able to get it or if any came with it from the factory.
for me it was 100%a Result of the update and its only for the initial brake release. Once it unintentionally free-rolls 3 feet, I get full fine control back and can inch backwards just like I could before the update. It also happens with or without the parking brake. I don’t really have an issue with it moving back a few inches in the opposite direction after stopping, it has always occasionally done this.

A lot of folks reported getting this brake feel update along with the recall OTA, no? I finally got the recall OTA last week on my '22 and NO brake feel update was included. My brakes still groan as much as they had before. I wonder if it has been pulled for more tweaking?

I'm taking delivery soon and I have a steep driveway.

What's the solution for now? Just turn off 1 pedal?

Just make sure there’s nothing 3ft behind you, after that you’ll be able to control it normally with just the accelerator ?. You can always hit the brake pedal to stop, after that it should work correctly. in my experience it’s only the initial release after changing between park/forward/reverse so it not worth turning off 1PD unless you’re trying to parallel park in SF haha.

It's a little annoying but I don't think you have to do anything to avoid it.

I'm not able to reproduce this. Do you have reverse brake assist enabled? I do.

Parking in SF is exactly what I thought of when I read this post! That would be terrifying!

Reverse brake assist has a misleading name, it only applies the brakes if your going to hit something. Although, that does sometimes trigger in my driveway too haha.
